Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Ivy Brain Tumor Center is a non-conventional non-profit program offering state-of-the-art clinical trials for patients with the most aggressive form of brain cancer. It is home to the largest collection of Phase 0 trials for brain tumors in the world. Our multidisciplinary team of brain tumor specialists and scientists are accelerating drug discovery and precision medicine in neuro-oncology to identify the most promising first-in-class therapies for brain tumor patients.

 

The Ivy Brain Tumor Center seeks a highly skilled and experienced Postdoctoral Fellow IV to join its collaborative preclinical neuro-oncology research team. Working under faculty direction this position provides day-to-day scientific oversight of assigned research activities with particular emphasis on Ivy Center projects. The Fellow works closely with the Principal Investigator Project Manager and research team to translate scientific priorities into effective execution and ensure projects are rigorous appropriately prioritized and completed on time. The position also designs and executes preclinical studies mentors junior laboratory staff and contributes to publications grant applications and scientific presentations while continuing to develop toward scientific independence.

 

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will engage in laboratory, translational, or clinical research under the direct guidance of a faculty member.Daily, you will develop skills essential for your success as an independent investigator, including conducting experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to scientific discourse and publications.Success in this role requires strong scientific curiosity, a rigorous research approach, a commitment to learning, and the ambition for leadership in your field.

• Designs conducts analyzes and interprets in vitro and in vivo experiments using established and novel glioma models.

• Translates faculty direction and project priorities into executable experimental plans; organizes and monitors daily research activities to maintain alignment with study objectives and timelines.

• Contributes to preclinical study plans and standard operating procedures including experimental design methodology and outcome measures.

• Applies Good Laboratory Practice standards and maintains complete accurate and traceable research documentation and final preclinical study reports.

• Reviews data as studies progress identifies scientific or technical concerns troubleshoots root causes and recommends evidence-based modifications to experimental approaches. 

• Provides day-to-day scientific oversight of assigned research activities particularly Ivy Center projects and serves as a senior scientific resource to the laboratory.

• Maintains timely communication with the Principal Investigator and Project Manager regarding scientific progress priorities unexpected findings project risks resource needs and barriers; implements agreed-upon direction and escalates matters requiring faculty guidance.

• Partners with the Project Manager research team and relevant core groups to coordinate activities monitor progress resolve barriers and support timely completion of multiple concurrent studies.

• Provides scientific guidance hands-on training mentorship and technical support to junior laboratory staff while reinforcing accountability research integrity rigor reproducibility and professional development.

• Maintains current knowledge of cancer biology neuro-oncology translational research and relevant technologies through critical review of scientific literature and recommends emerging approaches for consideration.

 • Leads and contributes to abstracts peer-reviewed manuscripts scientific presentations research reports and internal scientific updates.

• Supports grant proposals and funding applications through literature review preliminary data synthesis and scientific narrative development.

• Presents findings at laboratory and Center meetings institutional forums and regional national or international scientific conferences as appropriate.

 

 

Job Requirements

Required

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in oncology neuro-oncology cancer biology or a closely related field.

• Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience demonstrating increasing scientific independence responsibility and leadership in a laboratory research environment.

• Expertise in preclinical cancer research with strong knowledge of cancer biology cell-signaling pathways oncogenic mechanisms and relevant experimental approaches.

 

Preferred

• Hands-on experience with animal models and in vivo procedures; experience with flank and intracranial implantation of tumor cells is strongly preferred.

• Ability to independently design execute analyze troubleshoot and interpret complex research studies with strong scientific judgment and rigor.

• Strong organizational and project coordination skills including the ability to prioritize and monitor multiple concurrent studies maintain accurate documentation and meet timelines.

• Excellent scientific communication collaboration and mentorship skills with experience preparing manuscripts reports presentations and/or grant materials.
