Position Summary:
St. Michael’s Prep is looking for an Accountant to join its Business Office team. This is a full-time, 12-month position on campus. The Accountant provides support to the Business Office by assisting with the School’s accounting functions, journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, payroll processing, and other administrative support.
Strong communication skills, the ability to build relationships at all levels, organizational skills, and proficiency in Excel are essential. The Accountant must be detail-oriented, proactive, and demonstrate a high level of accuracy in their work. The candidate must also be discrete with sensitive information. The position reports directly to the Controller.
Essential Job Functions:
Accounting
- Prepares general ledger entries for accounts receivables, payroll and withholding
- Responsible for monthly reconciliations, including payroll and withholding accounts
- Responsible for monthly incidental student billing
- Responsible for semi-monthly payroll
- Responsible for monthly review of the school’s purchasing card program
- Assists with month end GL close process
- Assists with year end financial statement audit and prepares audit documentation
- Verifies accuracy of quarterly and annual tax reports submitted by payroll provider
- Prepares annual statistical reports
- Cross-train roles within the Business Office
Record Keeping & Compliance
- Maintain organized and accurate records of payroll and accounting transactions and related documentation
- Ensure all records are properly filed and archived in accordance with the School’s record retention policy
- Stay up to date on changes in accounting and payroll standards/regulations affecting the accounting and payroll functions
Other Duties

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
- 3+ years in overall combined accounting and finance experience, nonprofit experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Advanced facility with computer technology and software, including Google Suite and Microsoft Excel.
- Prior experience with Blackbaud FENXT and Paylocity preferred.
