Job Description

Responsible for leading efforts that enable El Camino Health to develop, establish and achieve strategic plans, and leads and/or supports projects executing El Camino’s top strategic priorities.  As a key advisor to the CEO, the Senior Director Strategy collaborates with the executive team and provides strategic leadership.  Will work closely with the division executives, service lines, and finance and performance improvement teams to ensure ECH’s long range success. Leads analysis of environmental trends and cycles to maintain and/or improve ECH’s competitive advantage in the market.  The Senior Director Strategy ensures the best use of organization’s resources by defining and planning strategic and long-range goals that are complementary to ECH’s mission, vision and culture while at the same time challenging the status quo.  The Senior Director Strategy evaluates existing plans to ensure growth and profitability, and makes adjustments as necessary. 

Key Responsibilities

In partnership with ECH leaders, develops strategic plans and supports the implementation of strategic programs and initiatives. 

Oversees analytics for strategic planning and strategy deployment to measure success in execution of strategic plans. 

Leads and contributes to the development and use of tools to facilitate strategy development and processes associated with decision-making, budgeting, measurement and assessment. 

Partners with internal stakeholders to scope, lead, and execute strategy development – engaging in content and analyses to translate strategy goals into actions, execute plans and/or set measureable goals.

Lead and contribute to the development and use of tools to facilitate strategy development and processes associated with decision-making, budgeting, measurement and assessment.

Leads a collaborative process to develop materials for annual planning, strategy reviews, learning sessions, and leadership/Board communications.

Collaborates with clinical and operational leaders to plan, promote, and conduct organization-wide performance improvement activities and support change management.

Works collaboratively with Service Line leaders to develop service line strategic and tactical plans, create dashboards, financial and operational metrics and score cards.

Facilitates the development of dashboards to help departments achieve goals. 

Leverages the use of data analytics to identify, measure, and drive goal achievement.

Works collaboratively with all levels of leadership to evaluate, analyze and interpret market utilization data for service lines.

Evaluates, analyzes and interprets market demographics, including population, age, gender, race and projected trends for patient populations.

Prepares and presents regular reports, identifying trends, opportunities and obstacles to achieving goals.

Leads and participates in project and teams that support ECH mission and revenue goals.

Qualifications

MBA, MPH, MHA or other advanced degree in healthcare, operations, finance, or management-related field

Five or more years’ experience in strategy, market analysis and/or business development of large, complex programs and/or services

Expertise in business and management computer applications and databases

Strong analytical skills, ability to perform quantitative and qualitative research

Ability to explore a diverse array of health related topics and distill key messages in preparation for presentations; Intuitive of internal and external factors that impact strategic goals (e.g. market trends, legislation, technological advancements).

Demonstrated ability to work with staff and leadership at all levels of the organization, as well as across and among departments and teams representing a broad range of constituencies and interpersonal styles and to integrate resources in a timely and organized manner.

Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve results

Creative problem solver with exceptional negotiation, effective interpersonal and political acumen skills

Experience in a healthcare organization and/or academic medical center preferred

Proven effectiveness in developing and executing visionary business strategies and plans for large, complex organizations.

Experience in physician relations, understanding and addressing physician needs

Experience driving innovation, translating vision into strategy, and devising creative solutions.

Excellent communication skills - verbal, written, presentation (as well as listening) - and the confidence to represent the organization in both formal and informal settings.

Sound management skills, ability to think strategically while balancing several complex agendas.

Established skills in planning and managing multiple, diverse and strategic projects.

A leadership style which emphasizes personal accountability and visibility within the organization and within the community.

Salary Range:

$103.76 - $155.63 USD Hour
