Description
WHY PATIENTS NEED YOU
Every high-performing leadership team depends on a strong operator behind the scenes, someone who keeps things organized, moves work forward, and helps the team execute well. This secondment offers a Pfizer colleague the chance to do that work for the global Vaccines leadership team and to see from the inside how it sets priorities, makes decisions, and delivers.
In the Business Management, Office of the CVO (Secondment) role, you will run the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Chief Vaccines Officer (CVO) as a trusted operational partner to the CVO and the Vaccines Chief of Staff (CoS). You will help prepare the groundwork for executive engagements, support cross-functional workstreams with guidance from the CoS, exercise sound judgment on day-to-day sequencing, and flag trade-offs as they arise. We are looking for someone organized, curious, and comfortable with ambiguity, who will not only keep things running but look for ways to make them run better.
WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE
The CVO Office is a small, high-trust, collaborative team. You will report directly to the Chief of Staff, who helps translate the CVO's priorities into execution, advises the CVO and the Vaccines Leadership Team, and drives alignment across Vaccines and its key partners. You will take direction from the CoS on scope and sequencing while owning execution end to end.
As you build a track record over the assignment, your scope will grow. You will be expected to anticipate needs, take initiative within your remit, and keep the CoS informed and aligned.
HOW YOU WILL ACHIEVE IT
Strategic Operations & Meeting Discipline (40%)
- Executive forums: Coordinate the planning, sequencing, and execution of core leadership forums, strategy meetings, and CVO engagements. Support agenda design and topic sequencing with the CoS as priorities shift.
- Execution and follow-through: Drive meeting discipline. Capture decisions and action items, assign clear ownership, and follow up with tact across senior stakeholders to keep work moving.
- Administrative network: Serve as the operational link to the executive and administrative assistant network across Vaccines, keeping calendars, logistics, and priorities aligned with the CoS and CVO.
Core Operations & Business Management (25%)
- Recognition and reward programs: Manage the end-to-end coordination of colleague recognition and reward programs across the Vaccines organization.
- Systems and tracking: Build simple dashboards, trackers, and document structures that keep the CVO Office organized, responsive, and data-informed.
Cross-Functional Partnership (20%)
- Navigate the R&D matrix: Build working relationships across the broader Pfizer R&D organization and within Vaccines, including teams across Vaccines, Leadership Team functions, and Site Affairs & Business Operations.
- Partner with enabling functions: Act as a day-to-day operational contact for partner functions outside Vaccines, including People Experience (PX), Global Workplace Experience (GWE), Digital, and Legal.
Executive Communications & Digital Tools (15%)
- Executive communications: Turn scientific, organizational, and operational information into clear briefings, presentations, and memos with strong attention to detail.
- Digital infrastructure: Maintain and improve SharePoint sites, Teams hubs, and shared repositories that support information flow across the organization.
- AI and automation: Use approved digital productivity and AI tools in your daily work to speed up synthesis and drafting, and create templates that help the broader team work smarter.
Who Will Thrive in This Role
- An owner: You see what needs to be done, often before being asked, and follow through from planning to the final detail while keeping stakeholders informed.
- Discreet: You handle sensitive organizational, personnel, and strategic information with integrity and confidentiality.
- Comfortable with ambiguity: You can bring order to unstructured situations and build the processes others rely on.
- Curious: You pull information together quickly, ask good questions, and look for smarter ways of working.
- Digitally fluent: You use approved digital and AI tools to reduce manual work and improve the speed and quality of your output.
What Success LooksLike
- By Day 30: You have built working relationships with the CoS, the Vaccines Leadership Team, and the administrative network, and you understand the office's operating rhythm, budget, and PO processes.
- By Day 90: You own the executive meeting cadence, meeting discipline, and action tracking. You have improved at least one cross-functional workflow, for example with GWE or PX.
- By the end of the secondment: The CVO Office is running with more speed and clarity because of the systems you built. You have delivered at least one colleague recognition initiative and documented processes so they continue after you return to your home role.
What You Will Take Back
This secondment is designed as a development experience. While it does not guarantee a future role, colleagues who complete it can expect to gain:
- A first-hand understanding of how Vaccines leadership sets priorities and makes decisions.
- Practical experience running executive operating rhythms across a global matrix.
- A broader network across Vaccines, R&D, and enabling functions.
- Stronger executive communication, synthesis, and influencing skills.
