Job Summary

The Mass General Brigham Gene & Cell Therapy Institute (GCTI) is a system-wide institute dedicated to advancing innovative gene, cell, and RNA-based therapies from discovery to clinical application.

We are seeking an accomplished scientist to lead translational research programs focused on cardiovascular gene and RNA therapeutics, with particular emphasis on cardiac fibrosis, myocardial remodeling, heart failure, and therapeutic development.

The successful candidate will develop novel therapeutic strategies, oversee preclinical research, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance promising candidates toward clinical translation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

-Lead research programs focused on cardiovascular gene and RNA therapeutics, including antifibrotic and cardiac repair strategies.
-Develop and evaluate AAV-based, mRNA, circular RNA, and other nucleic acid therapeutics.
-Investigate molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac fibrosis, myocardial remodeling, and heart failure.
-Design and execute in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate therapeutic efficacy, mechanisms of action, and safety.
-Develop and optimize therapeutic constructs, delivery approaches, and molecular assays.
-Collaborate with GCTI's CMC, regulatory, and translational teams to advance programs toward IND-enabling studies.
-Contribute to scientific publications, grant applications, intellectual property development, and external collaborations.
-Supervise and mentor research personnel while ensuring scientific rigor and reproducibility.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Cardiovascular Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant postdoctoral or industry research experience.
  • Strong expertise in cardiovascular biology, molecular mechanisms of disease, and therapeutic development.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, gene expression analysis, and preclinical disease models.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design experiments, analyze data, and lead collaborative research projects.
  • Excellent scientific communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in cardiac fibrosis, myocardial remodeling, and heart failure.
  • Experience with CCN5 or related antifibrotic therapeutic pathways.
  • Experience developing AAV-based gene therapies or RNA therapeutics.
  • Familiarity with mRNA, circular RNA, and lipid nanoparticle delivery technologies.
  • Experience in cardiovascular animal models and translational research.
  • Knowledge of preclinical development, regulatory requirements, and IND-enabling studies.
  • Strong publication record, grant-writing experience, and demonstrated ability to mentor scientists.

Expected Outcomes

The successful candidate will advance cardiovascular gene and RNA therapeutic programs, generate preclinical proof-of-concept data, establish translational development strategies, and contribute to GCTI's mission of bringing innovative genetic medicines toward clinical application.
