Texas A&M University's Department of Chemistry is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct advanced research in the field of radical S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) enzyme biochemistry and mechanism. Under the direction of faculty leadership, this position will perform laboratory research using protein overexpression, anaerobic protein purification techniques, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and other bioanalytical and spectroscopic methods to investigate enzyme structure, function, and localization. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to scholarly publications, research proposals, and presentations; maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces; collaborate with faculty and researchers on interdisciplinary projects; and assist with mentoring, training, and supervising graduate and student researchers. This role supports the department’s research mission through scientific discovery, technical expertise, and the dissemination of research findings to the broader scientific community.
Opportunities to Contribute
Conducts specialized research in the area of radical SAM enzyme biochemistry and mechanism.
Employs protein overexpression, anaerobic methods for protein purification, and various bioanalytical tools to assess protein purity and properties.
Utilizes electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy and other spectroscopic approaches to study enzymes of interest.
Pursues in vivo studies to evaluate enzyme localization and function as needed.
Analyzes research data, summarizes results, and writes/contributes figures to research papers, articles, publications, and funding proposals.
Collaborates with other researchers and/or faculty on project objectives.
Assists with the preparation, cleaning, and safety of the worksite, and ensures routine maintenance of specialized laboratory equipment.
Assists, mentors, and/or supervises undergraduate student researchers and/or graduate students working on research related to the project.
Promotes a safe, compliant, and collaborative learning environment within the research group.
Prepares comprehensive presentation materials covering individual research topics and/or relevant scientific literature for delivery to small and large groups.
Actively participates in the preparation of required technical progress reports for research sponsors.
Qualifications
Appropriate PhD in a related field.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
