Job Description – Legal Counsel (Media Buying)
Job Summary
The Legal Counsel will serve as the primary legal business partner for Dentsu China's centralized media buying business, providing timely, practical and commercially focused legal support to enable business growth while effectively managing legal and compliance risks.
This role is responsible for supporting the full spectrum of legal matters relating to media procurement and media buying operations, including commercial contracting, legal advisory, dispute management, legal risk assessment, and legal capability building across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Provide timely, practical and commercially focused legal advice to the media buying business and other stakeholders to support business objectives while managing legal risks. Draft, review, negotiate and approve a wide range of commercial agreements relating to media buying, procurement and other business operations. Advise business teams on legal and compliance matters, including contract law, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, regulatory compliance and other commercial legal issues. Manage legal risks arising from business operations, develop practical legal solutions, and support the implementation of legal best practices and risk management initiatives. Manage disputes, claims and litigation relating to the media buying business, including coordinating with external counsel where appropriate. Develop and deliver legal training, contract guidance and legal updates to enhance legal awareness and compliance across the business. Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and collaborate with regional and global legal teams to ensure consistent legal support and governance. Support other legal and compliance projects and initiatives as assigned by the Head of Legal.
Qualifications & Experience
Master of Laws (LL.M.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Juris Doctor (J.D.), or equivalent professional law degree from an accredited law school, with a master's degree in law or an equivalent postgraduate legal qualification preferred. Qualified to practice law in China Minimum 5–8 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in a multinational corporation and/or a reputable law firm, with substantial experience supporting commercial transactions. Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial agreements, preferably in the media, advertising, procurement, technology or related industries. Strong knowledge of commercial contract law, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, data protection, and regulatory compliance. Experience managing commercial disputes and coordinating with external counsel. Excellent legal drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across business functions and senior management. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while exercising sound legal judgment. Excellent written and spoken English
