Pay: $30.00–$35.00 per hour

Join Our Emergency Team!

Bay Beach Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is a multi-doctor, 24/7 emergency hospital dedicated to providing exceptional care for pets and their families.

Our hospital places a strong emphasis on excellent patient care, thoughtful client communication, and consistent medical protocols. Visiting specialists are available to provide advanced services including echocardiograms and ultrasound. We also have a General Practice sister hospital located approximately 20 minutes away in the heart of Virginia Beach, which has six doctors and is fully staffed.

We are looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) who is confident in an emergency setting, enjoys working as part of a collaborative medical team, and is committed to providing excellent care from admission through discharge.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will work closely with our veterinarians and medical support team to provide technical and clinical care while helping maintain an efficient, safe, and welcoming hospital environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients, including IV catheter placement, CRI management, medication administration, feeding tube placement, and continued patient monitoring.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and assist with anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, and post-operative care while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures, including appropriate patient restraint, preparation, and monitoring.
  • Perform laboratory testing such as urinalysis, hematology, fecal testing, and cytology, with accurate documentation and communication of results as appropriate.
  • Use and maintain diagnostic equipment, including radiology and ultrasound equipment, while following applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and other prescribed treatments in accordance with DEA, OSHA, and hospital requirements.
  • Maintain accurate controlled drug records and ensure controlled substances are handled, stored, and documented appropriately.
  • Enter, review, and maintain accurate treatment plans within the medical record system.
  • Complete medical recordkeeping, charge entry, and chart audits as needed to support smooth hospital operations.
  • Educate clients clearly and compassionately regarding preventative care, treatment plans, medications, products, and nutritional recommendations.
  • Keep treatment and surgical areas clean, organized, appropriately stocked, and maintained in accordance with sterile procedures.
  • Monitor inventory, rotate supplies, and assist with ordering medical equipment and supplies when needed.
  • Contribute to a positive hospital culture through communication, teamwork, and collaboration with colleagues across departments.
  • Follow state practice acts, legal requirements, and hospital policies when performing all duties.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed based on hospital operations and patient care needs.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this position, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • An active Licensed Veterinary Technician credential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, radiology, and dentistry.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to work within practice management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Professionalism, composure, and sound judgment when working in stressful or emotionally challenging situations.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A compassionate approach and commitment to providing exceptional patient care and client service.
  • The ability to safely work around cleaning chemicals, anesthetic gases, radiation, zoonotic diseases, and animal bodily fluids.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely handle animals weighing up to 130 pounds.
  • The ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • A professional, neat appearance consistent with hospital standards.
