Job Description:

Purpose of the position:


To provide operational leadership, technical oversight, and quality assurance for Health and Nutrition programmes and projects across World Vision Eswatini. The position is responsible for translating Health and Nutrition strategies into practical implementation approaches, systems, tools, and workplans that drive quality programme delivery and achievement of results.

The role coordinates Health and Nutrition teams, Area Programmes, projects, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen technical capacity, improve programme quality, facilitate learning and evidence generation, and ensure that interventions are integrated, evidence-based, contextually appropriate, and compliant with organisational, donor, and government requirements. The position supports resource mobilization, partnership building, programme quality assurance, and effective implementation of Health and Nutrition interventions that contribute to improved well-being outcomes for children and communities.


Major Responsibilities:

 

1.   Lead Health and Nutrition Programme Planning and Budgeting

  • Support translation of Health and Nutrition strategy into implementation plans.
  • Coordinate Health and Nutrition activities across Area Programmes and projects.
  • Support development of quality, cost-effective workplans and budgets.
  • Promote integrated programming across community, household, and facility levels.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to programme teams.
  • Monitor programme performance and address implementation gaps.
  • Support rollout and application of Health and Nutrition standards, tools, and approaches.
  •  Promote consistency and quality across programmes and projects.
  • Strengthen integration with other sectors such as WASH, Livelihoods, Education, Child Protection, Faith and Development, and Resilience.
  • Conduct field monitoring and supportive supervision to improve programme implementation.

2. Capacity Development

  • Assess technical capacity gaps among staff, partners, and communities.
  • Develop and implement capacity-strengthening plans.
  • Facilitate training, coaching, mentoring, and supportive supervision.
  • Develop, adapt, and disseminate technical training materials, tools, and job aids.
  • Strengthen technical competencies to support effective Health and Nutrition programme implementation.

 

3. Learning, Evidence Generation, Dissemination and Knowledge Management

  • Coordinate documentation of lessons learned, best practices, challenges, and innovations.
  • Collaborate with DMEAL and programme teams to identify learning and evidence gaps.
  • Support collection, analysis, and utilization of programme evidence for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and disseminate case studies, success stories, learning briefs, presentations, and other knowledge products.
  • Contribute technical inputs to external learning events, conferences, publications, and sector engagements.

 

4. Resource Mobilization

  • 4.1 Support pre-positioning and readiness for Health and Nutrition funding opportunities.
  • Track and analyze donor funding opportunities from bilateral, multilateral, and local sources.
  • Identify and engage strategic partners to strengthen funding competitiveness and programme delivery.
  • Support development and updating of Health and Nutrition capability statements and technical profiles.
  • Contribute technical inputs to concept notes, proposals, and grant applications.
  • Support fundraising and donor engagement efforts in collaboration with Support Offices and relevant stakeholders.

 

5. Quality Assurance

 

  • Support implementation and monitoring of Health and Nutrition quality standards across programmes and projects.
  • Review programme plans, technical approaches, and deliverables to ensure quality and effectiveness.
  • Conduct quality assessments, technical reviews, monitoring visits, and supportive supervision.
  • Identify and address programme quality gaps, technical challenges, and implementation risks.
  • Recommend and support continuous improvement of programme designs, models, and technical approaches.
  • Escalate significant quality, compliance, and implementation issues to the Associate Director, Health and Nutrition.

 

6. Networking, Partnering, Collaborations and External Representation

  • Coordinate technical engagement and collaboration among National Office teams, Area Programmes, and project teams.
  • Strengthen partnerships with government ministries, implementing partners, community structures, and other key stakeholders.
  • Support effective engagement with national and sub-national Health and Nutrition coordination structures.
  • Represent the organization in technical working groups, coordination forums, and stakeholder meetings as delegated.
  • Contribute to sector coordination, collaboration, and joint initiatives.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across programmes, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Identify and escalate significant partnership, stakeholder, and policy issues requiring strategic action.

 

7. Health and Nutrition Advocacy, Networking and influencing

 

  • Integrate advocacy and influencing priorities into Health and Nutrition programme implementation.
  • Generate, synthesize, and utilize programme evidence and field-level learning to support advocacy initiatives.
  • Provide technical input into policy briefs, advocacy materials, presentations, and other influencing products.
  • Support programme teams to identify and pursue community-level advocacy and engagement opportunities.
  • Contribute to organizational and sector efforts aimed at influencing policies, systems, and practices affecting health and nutrition outcomes.

 

8. Humanitarian Emergency Affairs

  • Monitor emerging public health, nutrition, and humanitarian risks that may affect programme implementation.
  • Support integration of preparedness, prevention, and risk-reduction measures into Health and Nutrition programmes.
  • Provide technical support for Health and Nutrition emergency preparedness and response activities.
  • Support rapid assessment and identification of Health and Nutrition needs during emergencies.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of appropriate emergency response interventions.
  • Coordinate with technical and operational teams to ensure Health and Nutrition priorities are integrated into emergency preparedness and response plans.

 

9. Management and supervision of teams and individual staff

 

  • Foster integrated programme delivery through collaboration with Area Programme teams and other sector leads.
  • Manage, supervise, coach, and build the capacity of Health and Nutrition staff across Area Programmes and grant-funded projects.
  • Coordinate Health and Nutrition programme implementation, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Facilitate technical training and capacity building for programme staff.
  • Support staff in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting Health and Nutrition activities.
  • Strengthen team performance, accountability, and professional development through effective supervision and performance management.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.

 

10. Faith and Development

 

  • Promote Kingdom values and spiritual growth among staff, partners, and communities.
  • Support the integration of Faith and Development approaches into Health and Nutrition programmes and projects.
  • Ensure Health and Nutrition interventions incorporate faith-sensitive and community-centered approaches where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with faith leaders, churches, and community structures to strengthen programme impact and sustainability.
  • Contribute to the achievement of World Vision's Christian identity and ministry objectives through programme implementation.

 

11. Compliance monitoring and risk mitigation

  • Support programme teams to identify, assess, document, and mitigate programme risks.
  • Maintain and monitor Health and Nutrition risk registers and track implementation of agreed mitigation actions.
  • Promote compliance with safeguarding, accountability, donor, government, and organizational policies and standards.
  • Support capacity building of programme teams on compliance requirements, policies, procedures, and technical standards.
  • Monitor compliance risks and ensure corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Promptly escalate significant compliance, safeguarding, operational, or programme risks to the Associate Director, Health and Nutrition and relevant support functions.
  • Strengthen a culture of accountability, risk awareness, and responsible programme management across Health and Nutrition programmes and projects.

 

Other roles

  • Attend and actively participate in daily devotions, retreats, chapel services, and other spiritual enrichment activities.
  • Model and uphold World Vision's Christian values, mission, and ministry commitments.
  • Support organizational initiatives and contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Undertake additional duties and special assignments as delegated by the Associate Director, Health and Nutrition or authorized management.
  • Contribute to the achievement of National Office priorities and organizational objectives beyond the immediate scope of the role when required.

 

Other Competencies/Attributes:

 

  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
  • Attend and participate in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Qualifications:  Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Minimum Qualification required: Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition or related field. Master’s degree in public health or other related field is an added advantage.
  • A deep knowledge of the health and nutrition issues that affect the country, with significant HN experience in the country.
  • Knowledge and skills in health data management/monitoring & evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, demonstrated leadership and good management ability.

Experience: 5+ years experience in public health programs.

  • Proven experience in managing community health and nutrition projects.
  • Experience leading and managing a professional technical team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and formal communication. 
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office. 
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds. 
  • High integrity, reliability and dependability. 
  • Experience in NGO programming is added advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with various stakeholders including national level.

 

Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of financial and human resource management.
  • Must be able to communicate in a cross-cultural environment.

 

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Based at Cluster Level for proximity to the field.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision, be a team player, innovative and demonstrate the capacity for maintaining high professional standards.
