Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Embark on a rewarding journey as a SAP Functional FICO SME, where you will play a key role in ensuring the stability, resilience, and continual improvement of critical Finance platforms supporting the Bank's financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and accounting operations.
As part of the Finance Technology team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality solutions across SAP Finance and Accounting domains, including General Ledger (GL), Asset Accounting (AA), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Project Systems (PS), Banking Interfaces, and Regulatory Reporting. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, architects, engineering teams, control functions, and external vendors to provide robust, scalable, and compliant solutions that support Barclays' strategic objectives.
Working across both Run-the-Bank (RTB) and Build-the-Bank (BTB) initiatives, you will drive operational excellence, simplification, automation, and adoption of clean-core principles while ensuring adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and technology governance.
Leading continuous improvement initiatives, you will champion standard SAP processes, data quality, process automation, and service resilience while fostering strong stakeholder relationships across Finance, Treasury, Risk, and Technology functions.
To be successful as a SAP Functional FICO SME, you should have experience with:
- End-to-end support and delivery of SAP Finance and Accounting solutions.
- SAP S/4HANA Finance modules.
- General Ledger, Asset Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Banking processes.
- IFRS16 lease accounting, regulatory and statutory reporting requirements.
- SAP Group Reporting.
- Business process analysis, solution design, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Stakeholder management across Finance, Treasury, Risk, Audit, and Technology teams.
- Driving automation, standardization, and simplification initiatives.
- Supporting audit, compliance, and risk control activities.
Some of the highly valued skills may include:
- SAP FICO configuration and functional design expertise.
- SAP S/4HANA Finance transformation experience.
- Integration knowledge across SAP modules including MM, SD, Treasury, Project Systems, and Fixed Assets.
