Job Description:

Job Purpose

  • BeOne Medicines is a global oncology company built to defy the status quo and reimagine how life-changing cancer therapies are discovered, developed and delivered to the people who need them. We’re building the world’s leading oncology company – driven by scientific excellence and exceptional speed – to reach more patients than ever before. Together, we are how the world stops cancer.

  • The Director, Corporate Communications and Patient Engagement – Japan serves as BeOne's in-market lead for corporate communications and patient engagement in Japan. Reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs - JAPAC & New Markets and operating as part of the Global Corporate Affairs function, the role owns and drives the Japan strategy for these areas, with accountability for strategic direction, execution, stakeholder impact and alignment with Global Corporate Affairs and Japan business priorities.

  • The role sets the strategic communications and engagement agenda to build trust, strengthen BeOne's reputation, engage colleagues and advance understanding of BeOne's purpose, strategy and purpose-built, in-house, end-to-end model. It operates as a senior adviser to Japan leadership, leads cross-functional alignment across Commercial, Medical, Regulatory, Clinical, Legal and Compliance, Human Resources and Finance, and represents BeOne with media, industry and trade associations, business partners, patient and advocacy organizations, and other healthcare stakeholders.

  • This is a senior in-market functional leadership role requiring enterprise judgment, strategic ownership and the ability to influence leadership and cross-functional decisions, operate with significant autonomy, and be accountable for outcomes in Japan.

Responsibilities

Communications strategy and counsel

  • Own, develop and drive the Japan corporate communications and patient engagement strategy, translating business priorities into a multi-year plan with clear objectives, measures and accountability for near- and long-term impact.

  • Serve as the principal strategic communications and reputation adviser to Japan leadership, providing proactive counsel on corporate positioning, employee engagement, patient engagement, executive visibility, stakeholder trust, reputation risks and opportunities.

  • Set the integrated Japan communications and patient engagement agenda by translating global and regional strategy and the corporate narrative into country objectives, priorities and plans; shape launch excellence and other enterprise initiatives through cross-functional leadership.

External communications and media relations

  • Set and lead the external communications and media relations strategy for Japan, building senior relationships with leading national and trade media and proactively advancing BeOne's reputation as a global oncology company and understanding of its purpose-built, in-house model.

  • Oversee the development, governance and quality of press releases, external presentations, executive communications, corporate digital and social content, and other external materials, ensuring strategic consistency, alignment with approved global corporate messaging, and compliance with applicable legal, regulatory and compliance requirements.

  • Own media, stakeholder and industry horizon scanning for Japan; interpret implications for reputation and business performance, and provide timely strategic recommendations and escalation to Japan and Corporate Affairs leadership.

Internal and employee communications

  • Set and oversee a multi-year internal and employee communications strategy for Japan aligned with BeOne's long-range goals, business priorities and workforce context, with clear measures of engagement and impact.

  • Act as strategic adviser to Japan leaders on leadership, organizational change and employee communications; shape executive narratives, major town halls and leadership communications, and drive clarity and consistency of the corporate narrative across the organization.

Patient engagement

  • Own and lead BeOne's patient engagement strategy in Japan in collaboration with cross-functional partners, building trusted long-term relationships with patient and advocacy organizations and ensuring priorities, communications and relevant business decisions are grounded in the lived experiences, expectations and treatment journeys of people with cancer.

  • Lead cross-functional alignment with Medical, Commercial and other functions on patient engagement priorities and responsible collaboration, ensuring patient insights are meaningfully incorporated into plans and advancing initiatives that address gaps in education, diagnosis and access while maintaining appropriate independence and compliance.

Issues and crisis management

  • Lead issues and crisis preparedness and response for Japan, identifying emerging risks early, advising leadership on strategic options, establishing escalation and response approaches, and directing coordinated communications for sensitive or high-impact matters.

Cross-functional leadership and external partners

  • Serve as a senior Corporate Affairs adviser to Japan leadership and cross-functional teams, using deep understanding of the business, strategy and performance to influence decisions and lead executive positioning, visibility and thought leadership.

  • Represent Japan actively within Global Corporate Affairs, bringing market insight into regional and global strategy, shaping enterprise priorities where relevant, and ensuring best practice and strategic alignment are translated effectively in-market.

  • Set the external agency and vendor model for Japan and oversee partner selection, scope, performance, governance and spend to ensure strategic capability, high-quality delivery and strong value.
