Senior Project Engineer - Industrial Refrigeration

What you will do:

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating all engineering activities across IREF projects to ensure technical compliance, timely deliverables, and seamless integration between design, procurement, and site execution. The role safeguards project quality, supports margin protection, and ensures alignment with client specifications and consultant requirements.

The Senior Project Engineer will support Pre-sales activities includes, but are not limited to: reviewing tender documentation provided by customer or consultant, doing site survey, attending technical meeting with customer or consultant, making initial technical calculation, preparing system concept design, selection of Industrial refrigeration equipment, estimation cost of all components for iREF System, preparing cost book, quotation text as well as process flow diagrams This role will receive direction, coaching support from Regional Engineering Manager and sales leadership on pre-sale needs and expectation.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for leading project control and monitoring activities, ensuring that projects are executed profitably, accurately, and on schedule, while remaining within the contractual scope and aligned with customer expectations. The role will lead the development, coordination, and review of detailed engineering deliverables and technical submittals to effectively communicate design intent, system configuration, operational requirements, and installation specifications to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls operations teams, and subcontractors. Key responsibilities include reviewing and validating technical documentation and engineering drawings prepared both internally and by suppliers, developing design briefs and sequences of operation, providing technical leadership and support throughout project execution, including start-up and commissioning activities, system troubleshooting, and resolution of technical issues to ensure successful project delivery.

   The Senior Project Engineer, in addition to providing pre-sales and post-sales support, will play a key role in delivering technical expertise and engineering support to the iREF MEA Aftermarket team in projects related to retrofit or upgrade of existing refrigeration systems. Works with assigned sales and operation team to maintain and effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results when performing pre-sales and or post sales duties.

How you will do it

Responsibilities :

• Engineering Coordination — Lead and coordinate all engineering activities across project phases to ensure timely and accurate technical deliverables.
• Technical Compliance — Ensure all materials, drawings, and installations comply with project specifications, standards, and approved design documents.
• Design Review — Review IFC drawings, shop drawings, and design changes; provide technical clarifications to consultants, suppliers, and site teams.
• -Material Submittals — Prepare, review, and track material submittals, ensuring alignment with project requirements and timely approvals.
• Procurement Support — Provide technical evaluation for suppliers/subcontractors and support procurement with specification compliance.
• Site Technical Support — Resolve site engineering issues, provide installation guidance, and ensure technical alignment between engineering and execution teams.
• Interface Management — Manage technical interfaces between design, procurement, QA/QC, and site execution to avoid delays or rework.
• Quality Assurance — Support QA/QC with inspections, NCR resolutions, and verification of workmanship against approved standards.
• Risk Identification — Identify engineering risks early and propose mitigation plans to protect schedule and margin.
• T&C Documentation — Ensure all engineering documentation required for Testing & Commissioning is complete, accurate, and delivered on time.
• Progress Reporting — Provide weekly engineering progress updates, highlight constraints, and support recovery plans with Planning.
• Margin Protection & Improvement — Prevent technical deviations, rework, and delays that could negatively impact project gross margin.

What we look for:

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Refrigeration Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• PMP certification or an equivalent Project Management qualification.
• Minimum of five years of experience in the execution and management of industrial refrigeration projects and/or large-scale commercial refrigeration, industrial, MEP, or EPC projects.
• Proven track record in project engineering, design coordination, and providing technical support at site.
• Experience working with consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Demonstrated ability to manage technical interfaces across design, procurement, QA/QC, and project execution functions.
• Experience in Testing & Commissioning activities, including documentation preparation and readiness reviews.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Visio, as well as Adobe Acrobat and Windows operating systems.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining professionalism, collaboration, and persistence.
