Under the supervision and direction of the operating surgeon, functions during the intra-operative phase of the peri-operative experience. Does not function concurrently as the scrub nurse. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the surgical setting. Participates in performance improvement activities
Requirements
Regulatory Requirements:
· Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Louisiana.
· Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR); RNFA certification within 2 years.
· Documentation of proficiency in perioperative nursing practice as both a scrub and circulating nurse.
· Current BLS required.
· Current ACLS certification preferred.
· Current PALS certification preferred.
· Successful completion of approved RNFA program that meets the “AORN recommendation education, meets requirements of statutes, regulations, and institutional policies relevant to RN first assistants’ standards for RN first assistant programs” and is accepted by the Certification Board Perioperative Nursing.
