We believe in continuous improvement, innovation, accountability, and gratitude—and we’re looking for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist who will help ensure our employees are paid accurately, receive the benefits they’ve earned, and have a great experience when they need HR support.
Position Summary
The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of payroll and employee benefits for Aruza Pest Control. This position will manage day-to-day payroll processes, benefits administration, employee records, and related HR transactions while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable federal and state regulations.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with confidential information, and able to balance accuracy with a high level of customer service. This role will work closely with employees, managers, Finance, and the broader HR team to resolve questions and ensure a smooth employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time for employees across multiple locations and states.
- Review payroll data for accuracy, including hours worked, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, PTO, new hires, terminations, and other payroll adjustments.
- Audit payroll information and identify discrepancies before payroll is finalized.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
- Process employee changes including new hires, promotions, transfers, pay changes, and terminations.
- Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, tax withholdings, direct deposit, and other payroll-related matters.
- Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll-related reports and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2s and other required reporting.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll requirements.
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, 401(k), and other company-sponsored benefits.
- Coordinate new hire benefits enrollment and ensure employees understand available benefit options.
- Manage employee benefit changes related to qualifying life events, status changes, and terminations.
- Work with benefit providers and brokers to resolve enrollment, billing, and coverage issues.
- Review benefit invoices and assist with reconciliation and payment processes.
- Support annual open enrollment activities, including employee communications and enrollment tracking.
- Maintain accurate benefits records and ensure changes are properly reflected in the HRIS/payroll system.
HRIS & Employee Records
- Maintain accurate employee information in the HRIS and payroll systems.
- Process employee data changes in a timely and accurate manner.
- Conduct regular audits of employee, payroll, and benefits data.
- Maintain confidential personnel, payroll, and benefits records.
- Generate reports and provide payroll and benefits information to HR and Finance as needed.
Employee Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions related to payroll and benefits.
- Provide timely, professional, and helpful responses to employees and managers.
- Research and resolve payroll and benefits issues while maintaining confidentiality.
- Help educate employees on company policies, benefits, payroll procedures, and available resources.
- Partner with the HR team to improve processes and the overall employee experience.
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Maintain awareness of applicable payroll, benefits, and employment regulations.
- Ensure payroll and benefits processes are consistently followed and properly documented.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll, benefits, and HR processes.
- Assist with internal and external audits as needed.
- Maintain strong internal controls around payroll and employee data.
- Support other HR and administrative initiatives as assigned.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in payroll, benefits administration, HR operations, or a related field.
- Experience processing payroll in an HRIS/payroll system; Paylocity experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, deductions, taxes, and payroll reporting.
- Experience administering employee benefit programs.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with HR, Finance, managers, and employees.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet firm payroll deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Payroll certification such as FPC or CPP.
- Experience with Paylocity or similar payroll/HRIS platforms.
- Experience supporting employees across multiple states.
- Experience working in a high-growth organization.
- Experience with benefits billing, reconciliation, and open enrollment.

Success in this role means payroll is accurate and on time, benefits are administered efficiently, employee questions are resolved quickly, and HR/payroll data remains accurate and up to date.
