Department: Human Resources
Reports To: HR Manager
Location: White Bear Lake, MN / Twin Cities Metro Area
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Regular Business Hours
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Travel: Approximately 30% within assigned Twin Cities metro communities

Position Summary

The Regional Human Resources Generalist serves as a trusted HR partner to an assigned group of Suite Living Senior Care communities and their leadership teams. This position provides hands-on support across a broad range of human resources functions, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits and leave administration, compliance, performance management, unemployment and workers' compensation, and HR reporting.

The Regional HR Generalist will regularly visit assigned communities, build strong relationships with employees and leaders, identify HR needs, provide guidance on employment practices and company policies, and help ensure consistent application of HR processes across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Regional HR Partnership & Employee Relations

  • Serve as the primary HR partner for assigned Suite Living Senior Care communities and their leadership teams.
  • Conduct regular in-person visits to assigned communities to maintain strong relationships and stay connected to employees and operations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR questions, policies, procedures, and employment-related matters.
  • Listen to and gather employee feedback, identify trends, and communicate both positive and constructive feedback to HR and operational leadership.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers regarding employee performance, attendance, conduct, workplace concerns, and corrective action.
  • Partner with management and regional leadership on employee relations matters and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Participate in workplace investigations and assist with gathering information, conducting interviews, documenting findings, and recommending appropriate next steps.
  • Provide education and guidance regarding company policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Support employee retention and engagement initiatives across assigned communities.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement in HR processes, employee experience, and organizational practices.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Post job openings for caregiver, culinary, activities, housekeeping, and other community-based positions.
  • Assist with recruiting, candidate screening, interviewing, and selection activities as needed.
  • Maintain job postings and recruiting activity through applicable applicant tracking systems and online job boards.
  • Coordinate and support new-hire onboarding activities.
  • Ensure employee records and required onboarding documentation are completed accurately and maintained in the HRIS.
  • Process background checks for administrative and management-level hires.
  • Scan, upload, and maintain HR documents within the HRIS and other applicable systems.

Payroll, Benefits & HR Administration

  • Review payroll information for assigned communities and identify and resolve discrepancies before each payroll processing period.
  • Assist with companywide payroll processing and related HR responsibilities each pay period.
  • Enter and maintain accurate information related to levies, garnishments, child support income withholding orders, and other payroll-related requirements.
  • Review and respond to employee questions related to payroll, benefits, and other HR processes.
  • Prepare HR, recruiting, payroll, and other workforce reports for management.
  • Complete employment verifications for employees, financial institutions, government agencies, and other authorized parties.

Leave, Unemployment & Workers' Compensation

  • Review and respond to Paid Leave, FMLA, and other employee leave requests in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Partner with facility and regional management to review, respond to, and submit unemployment claims through applicable portals or other required methods.
  • Support management during unemployment hearings by providing guidance, documentation, and attendance when necessary.
  • Partner with facility and regional management regarding workers' compensation claims and related documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and communication throughout employment-related claims and leave processes.

Compliance & HR Operations

  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in accordance with company requirements.
  • Ensure HR processes are completed consistently and in compliance with applicable company policies and employment regulations.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Minnesota employment practices and HR requirements.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential employee information with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Assist with HR projects, audits, process improvements, and organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provide coverage for other HR team members during periods of vacation, leave, or other absences.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional HR experience supporting a variety of HR functions, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, leave administration, or related areas.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, and leadership.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a collaborative HR team.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience working with an HRIS system; experience with iSolved is preferred.
  • Experience with online job boards and applicant tracking systems; experience with Indeed, ApplicantPro, or iSolved Talent is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Minnesota driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between assigned communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working in healthcare, senior living, assisted living, long-term care, hospice, or another regulated healthcare environment.
  • Experience supporting multiple locations or operating as a field/regional HR professional.
  • Working knowledge of Minnesota employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience with unemployment claims and hearings.
  • Experience with workers' compensation processes.
  • Experience with employee leave administration, including FMLA and Paid Leave.
  • Experience coaching managers through employee relations and corrective action matters.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily based at the Suite Living Senior Care Corporate Office in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, or another designated office location, with approximately 70% of the work performed in an office environment and 30% involving travel to assigned assisted living communities throughout the Twin Cities metro area. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. The employee may occasionally be required to lift or carry items weighing up to 15 pounds. Regular travel between assigned communities is required, and the employee must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
