Job Summary

The Asthma Research Center (ARC) in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is looking for an exceptional postdoctoral fellow to advance research in asthma precision medicine, with a focus on bioinformatics and multi-omics, under the supervision of ARC Director Dr. Elliot Israel and Associate Director Dr. Craig Hersh. The fellow will work on one of several projects which include datasets of RNA-sequencing, metabolomics, and/or other omics from blood and respiratory samples with corresponding clinical, imaging, and genotyping data. In addition, these projects will be generating new omics datasets in banked clinical specimens. The fellow will take primary responsibility for data analysis and management, sharing results with the research team, presenting at local and national meetings, and preparing conference abstracts and manuscripts for publication. The fellow will work with an interdisciplinary team, consisting of clinician-investigators, clinical trials staff, laboratory technicians, bioinformaticians, genetic epidemiologists, and translational scientists.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, statistics, genetics, computational biology, or a related quantitative field
  • Strong programming skills in R / Bioconductor.
  • Experience in analysis of RNA-sequencing, genetics, metabolomics or other omics data is mandatory.
  • Research experience in asthma or another respiratory condition is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and documentation skills.
  • Ability to adhere to reproducible research standards.
  • Ability to work well in teams and interact with all levels of staff.

Successful candidates will have the drive to pursue new scientific questions and be readily able to learn new skills and analytic techniques. Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is available immediately.
