HR Service Representative

Overview

Salem Media is looking for an HR Service Representative who leads with a servant's heart. In this fully remote role, you'll be the frontline voice for employees and managers navigating benefits, policies, and HR systems — bringing patience, sound judgment, and a genuine service-first mindset to every interaction. Responsibilities

• Serve as a first point of contact for employees, managers, and business partners with HR-related inquiries via phone and email, bringing a servant leadership mindset to every interaction
• Manage full-cycle job posting, background checks, assessments, onboarding, PAN creation and updates, I-9 verification, and first-day readiness
• Manage full-cycle terminations, including UKG submission, paperwork, exit interviews, and unemployment claims
• Identify and assess caller and ticket needs, exercising sound judgment and self-governance to resolve and close tickets accurately and efficiently — escalating only when truly warranted
• Apply HR policies, procedures, and knowledge base resources to answer inquiries consistently and in compliance with company standards
• Initiate outbound follow-up calls on incomplete items
• Prepare employment-related documents, such as change notices and employment agreements
• Provide light backup support answering the company's main switchboard as needed (handled remotely)
• Support administrative projects, reporting, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• A genuine desire to serve and support others, paired with a strong customer service orientation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
• A self-starter who exercises sound, independent judgment (self-governance) within established guidelines, rather than needing close oversight
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Prior experience in HR, a call center, or customer service is a plus, but not required — we value character and capability over a checklist
• Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment, supporting employees across multiple states and time zones

Compensation

$17.00 - $19.00 per hour, depending on experience
