The Proposition Manager develops, delivers and manages intermediary propositions, with an initial focus on packaged solutions.

The role translates strategic priorities into clear proposition requirements, evidence-based recommendations and practical delivery plans. It brings together customer, adviser, market and commercial insight to identify opportunities and guide proposition decisions.

Working across Proposition, Distribution, Marketing, Pricing, Finance, Risk, Operations, Digital and Change, the Proposition Manager coordinates delivery, maintains effective governance and helps resolve issues.

The role makes sure propositions deliver strong customer outcomes, commercial value and regulatory compliance.

While initially focused on packaged solutions, the role provides proposition management expertise that can be applied across a wider range of priorities as business needs evolve.

The Head of Proposition Innovation retains accountability for strategic prioritisation, senior decisions and overall proposition ownership.

Main Responsibilities

Proposition development and management

• Develop and enhance propositions, with an initial focus on packaged solutions.
• Manage activity across the proposition lifecycle, from initial insight and requirements definition through to delivery, governance and post-launch review.
• Define clear proposition requirements that reflect customer needs, adviser experience, market developments and commercial objectives.
• Bring together investment, product, servicing and adviser-experience considerations to shape effective packaged solutions.
• Apply proposition management capability across adjacent areas when customer, distribution, regulatory or commercial priorities change.

Insight and opportunity assessment

• Gather and interpret customer, adviser, competitor, market and performance insight.
• Identify and assess proposition opportunities arising from customer needs, adviser feedback, market developments, regulation and commercial performance.
• Turn complex information into clear, evidence-based recommendations and decision-making materials.
• Monitor proposition performance and use findings to recommend enhancements or corrective action.
• Balance customer, commercial, cost and risk considerations when assessing potential solutions.

Delivery planning and execution

• Translate proposition priorities into clear requirements, delivery plans, milestones and actions.
• Coordinate proposition activity across cross-functional teams and maintain momentum against agreed plans.
• Track progress, dependencies, risks and issues, taking action or escalating where appropriate.
• Provide clear and timely updates to stakeholders and governance forums.
• Contribute subject matter expertise throughout delivery and implementation.

Governance, risk and customer outcomes

• Develop and maintain proposition governance materials, management information and reporting.
• Make sure governance activity gives appropriate consideration to customer outcomes, fair value, Consumer Duty, risk management and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate scheduled and event-driven proposition reviews.
• Identify and escalate material risks, issues or potential customer impacts.
• Maintain clear records of recommendations, decisions, actions and approvals.
• Identify practical improvements to proposition governance, reporting and controls.

Stakeholder management and influence

• Build effective relationships across Proposition, Distribution, Marketing, Pricing, Finance, Risk, Operations, Digital and Change.
• Create alignment around proposition requirements, priorities and delivery plans.
• Lead proposition discussions within agreed areas of responsibility.
• Use insight and expertise to influence decisions and provide constructive challenge.
• Work with stakeholders to resolve conflicts or barriers that may affect delivery.
• Act as a key point of coordination for assigned proposition activity.

Decision-making and accountability

• Recommend proposition requirements, enhancements, delivery priorities and governance actions.
• Decide how best to organise and deliver assigned proposition activity within agreed strategic and governance boundaries.
• Apply judgement when evaluating options, considering the effect on customers, advisers, cost, commercial value and risk.
• Escalate material risks, strategic decisions and priority conflicts to the Head of Proposition Innovation or the relevant governance forum.
• Remain accountable for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of assigned proposition outputs.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Experience of proposition management, product development or product governance within financial services.
• Knowledge of pensions and investment products, ideally within an adviser-led distribution environment.
• Experience of developing or enhancing propositions in response to changing customer needs, regulation or market conditions.
• Understanding of product and proposition governance, including customer outcomes, fair value, risk and Consumer Duty considerations.
• Experience of collating, monitoring and reviewing management information and performance reporting.
• Ability to analyse complex information and translate insight into concise recommendations, papers and decision-making materials.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of customer, adviser, distribution and market dynamics.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence and challenge constructively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of governance papers, reports and progress updates.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, resolve delivery issues and maintain momentum in a changing environment.
• A proactive and curious approach, with a focus on continuous improvement and quality delivery.
