Description
At Zinc, we're rapidly technologising how we serve candidates, recruiters, and customers, without eroding what makes our service genuinely good. Core Ops is the team making sure the business runs on real, trustworthy data, and this role is the technical core of that: turning raw data into a clean, reliable foundation the rest of the business builds on.
You'll report directly to the Head of Operations, and work closely with the Commercial Ops Lead, Customer Lead, and Tech's data engineering team. This starts as an individual contributor role today, with a clear path to people management as the data team is growing in the first half of 2027.
This team is data, analytics, and modelling focused. You'll take the data Zinc already has and truly optimise it: making it fit for purpose, statistically sound, and genuinely trustworthy. The rest of the Ops team (Commercial Ops Lead, Customer Lead, and their analysts) handle business operations and general analysis, but this role is the deep specialist behind that.
We're open to diverse backgrounds that bring transferable skills to this role, but expect the ideal candidate to come from one of the following:
- Analytics Engineer / Data and Analytics Lead
- Data Engineer with strong analytics/BI experience
- Senior Data Analyst ready to move into data modelling ownership
Key Responsibilities 🗝️
- Partner with business leads across the company to turn a stated problem into a clear, defined, reproducible metric.
- Own the data modelling and transformation layer, build and maintain the BI/reporting layer the business relies on as its single source of truth.
- Write SQL and build data models hands-on, working closely with Tech's data engineering team on the underlying warehouse.
- Keep data quality high, catch and prevent the kind of data issues that undermine trust in reporting.
- Define the marker points (the thresholds for what counts as a real trend or anomaly on core metrics) and proactively flag business leads when something crosses them, so decisions come from historical-trend evidence, not gut feel.
- Grow into managing a small team as the function scales.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise 🚀
- Strong SQL and data modelling experience, ideally in a BI/data warehouse context
- Comfortable owning a BI tool (we use Sigma) as the organisation's single source of truth
- Track record turning ambiguous business questions into clean, reproducible data answers
- Applied statistics: confident telling signal from noise. That means trend and anomaly detection, cohort and retention analysis, and regression to understand what's really driving a metric (for example, which account signals predict churn, or what moves turnaround times). Experience with forecasting or survival analysis is a plus. You know when a simple method is the right answer, and when the data can't support a stronger claim.
