AI Engineer

What is the opportunity?

The AI & Digital Innovation team in RBC Capital Markets is seeking an AI Engineer with expertise in software engineering, applied AI, Generative AI, and quantitative computation to collaborate with Sales & Trading and develop desk-facing solutions. You will work across how sales understand clients, how sales and traders set a price, and how that price drives a sale, applying predictive analytics at scale to electronic trading and automated price setting.

 

What will you do?

• Identify and build desk-facing applied AI capabilities for Sales & Trading, with an emphasis on improving how sales understand clients, how sales and traders set a price, and how that price drives a sale.
• Frame ambiguous commercial questions as tractable quantitative and applied AI problems, translating business needs and desk context into clear opportunities that can be evaluated, delivered, and adopted by real users.
• Develop predictive analytics for electronic trading and automated price setting, with an emphasis on using evidence from large-scale data to strengthen pricing judgment and improve the usefulness of desk-facing capabilities.
• Design and implement computation at scale for heavy data work, making quantitative analysis practical, repeatable, and reliable while supporting solutions that can operate effectively in production environments.
• Deliver applied AI solutions end to end through evaluation, production readiness, and adoption, shortening the path from an identified opportunity to a capability that real users can rely on in their day-to-day work.
• Learn from real user feedback and improve delivered capabilities after they are in use, with an emphasis on responding to observed needs, strengthening reliability, and increasing practical value for Sales & Trading stakeholders.
• In this role, you will communicate and interact frequently with RBC partners and/or employees located across Canada and/or worldwide.

 

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

• A post-secondary degree in Physics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Computer Science or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 2 to 5 years of experience building Deep Learning or Machine Learning models in production environments.
• A demonstrated record of shipping non-trivial systems that real users depend on, with initiative and end-to-end ownership.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with applied AI and Generative AI frameworks and architectures.
• Experience with quantitative analysis and setting up computation at scale for heavy data work.
• Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and distributed computing.
• Interest in applying and developing new technologies to prioritize the goal of creating business outcomes
• Understanding of Sales & Trading workflows within Capital Markets

 

Nice-to-have

• Risk concepts, market microstructure, and quantitative finance fluency for pricing, trading and risk-management.
• Exposure to electronic trading, automated pricing, or predictive analytics.
• Retrieval, context design, and information-retrieval methods.
• Experience delivering in a regulated or security-conscious environment.
