Description

Under general supervision of the Public Works Director or his/her designee, assists in administering departmental programs, policies, procedures and projects.
(These examples do not include all the duties, which may be assigned.)
- Researches and prepares applications for grant funding, monitors grant funding received, and prepares grant fund audit reports as required.
- Assists in the design and development of public works projects; prepares project specifications and contracts; assists in administration of related contracts; attends related meetings.
- Monitors program fund expenditures; coordinates purchasing and inventory activities; coordinates with local, state and federal agencies regarding programs; reviews and ensures regulation compliance.
- Researches and organizes technical and statistical data relative to departmental functions and programs, analyzes and makes recommendations.
- Receives and responds to citizen requests for service; provides information and interpretations of City ordinances, policies and procedures.
- Compiles, organizes, processes, and analyzes data for the preparation, completion and presentation of assigned projects and reports.
- Writes staff reports relative to departmental functions; prepares correspondence; performs routine and complex calculations.
- Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures; performs related work duties as assigned.
Knowledge of: Elementary statistics; research and report writing techniques; English grammar, spelling and composition; principles and uses of algebra, geometry and trigonometry; personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and database management; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; desktop publishing programs.
Ability to: Research, analyze, and make sound recommendations; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; interpret and apply municipal codes, legislative regulations, policies and procedures; design, develop, and implement programs utilizing principles and practices of public-sector management; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, agencies, vendors, and staff; exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with the public, staff and other agencies; and utilize quality customer service skills and techniques.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Experience: One year of responsible administrative experience in municipal government or a related field is required.
Education: Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Engineering, Urban Planning, Public or Business Administration or a related field is required.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of a valid California Driver License is required.
Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. Consideration and approval for a salary higher than the first step is done on a case-by-case basis.
SELECTION PROCESS:
