Human Resources Generalist

The City of Clayton is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our team and help support employees throughout the organization. This is a broad, hands-on HR role with opportunities to work across recruiting, benefits, employee relations, HRIS, payroll, compliance, onboarding, employee engagement and training.

 

You should be comfortable talking with employees and supervisors, asking questions, listening carefully, explaining policies and helping people work through workplace issues. At the same time, you'll spend plenty of time working independently-researching, organizing information, maintaining records and making sure the details are right. You don't have to know everything about municipal HR when you walk through the door. We can teach you our systems and processes. What matters most is that you're someone people can trust, who enjoys helping others, exercises good judgment and takes pride in getting the details right.

Typical hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional early mornings and late evenings to support employee events.

This is an exempt position with a starting salary of $67,394.78.

 What You'll Do

• Recruit, interview, and facilitate hiring for City positions
• Administer benefits, leave, and other HR programs
• Partner with Payroll to maintain accurate employee earnings, benefits, and deductions
• Maintain HRIS and personnel records
• Support employee onboarding, recognition, engagement, and employee events
• Help develop and implement initiatives that support employee morale, communication, and workplace culture
• Respond to questions from employees, applicants, and supervisors
• Support training and professional development initiatives
• Maintain compliance with employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices
• Stay current on HR trends, technology, and employment law
• Support the Senior Human Resources Generalist and the overall operation of the HR office

 What We're Looking For

Required:

• Three years of progressively responsible HR experience
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge of employment laws and regulations
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
• Ability to learn and effectively use HR technology

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field
• HR certification such as SHRM-CP, PHR, or PSHRA-CP
• Experience with employee relations, recruiting, benefits, HRIS, or payroll

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
