The Opportunity
Hitachi Energy is seeking an experienced Installation Manager to lead the safe and successful delivery of high-voltage substation projects across the UK.
Working across AIS and GIS installations ranging from 132kV to 400kV, you will provide leadership, technical oversight, and governance across multiple projects, supporting Site Managers, Site Supervisors, Project Managers, and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering critical power infrastructure projects that support the UK's energy transition while working within a global leader in electrification.
How You'll Make an Impact
Lead and support Site Managers and Site Supervisors across multiple UK projects.
Provide technical oversight for AIS and GIS switchgear installations from 132kV to 400kV.
Support Project Managers with installation planning, resource requirements, and project delivery strategies.
Review project scopes, programmes, and installation methodologies during tender and delivery phases.
Drive high standards of safety, quality, and project execution across all sites.
Monitor installation progress and proactively address programme risks and delivery challenges.
Conduct regular site visits, safety observations, and project reviews.
Ensure compliance with HSE, CDM, quality, and customer requirements.
Manage installation subcontractors and support mobilisation activities.
Oversee critical interfaces between construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
Provide technical guidance on GIS systems, SF6 handling, F-Gas requirements, and emerging technologies such as EconiQ.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned across the project portfolio.
Your Background
Essential
Proven experience managing installation activities within high-voltage substation environments.
Strong working knowledge of AIS and GIS switchgear installation.
Experience delivering projects within 132kV-400kV environments.
Experience managing subcontractors, site teams, and multiple projects simultaneously.
Knowledge of CDM regulations, construction management, and HSE best practices.
Strong programme planning, resource management, and stakeholder management skills.
Full UK Driving Licence.
SMSTS and IOSH Managing Safely.
Preferred
NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
Engineering qualification (HNC, HND, Degree, NVQ, or Apprenticeship).
National Grid Competent Person authorisations.
Knowledge of SF6 handling, F-Gas regulations, and alternative insulating technologies.
Experience within transmission and distribution projects.
