This position will be with Rothfos, the leading supplier of commercial green coffee to roasters across North America. Founded in 1991, Rothfos brings more than three decades of experience to the green coffee market.
Job Purpose:
To support the buying and selling of green coffee on behalf of the company by contributing to effective trading operations and commercial execution. As a member of the trading team, you will assist in executing local trading and marketing strategies, logistics management, customer relationship management, and operational excellence, while building the knowledge and skills required to grow into a Trader role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate on the Strategy of the group, along with the deep analysis of the Supply/Demand and Market Risks.
- Build relationships with suppliers at origin and bring market intelligence to trading team. Direct and indirect sourcing responsibility of specific origins.
- Manage physical long & short position to ensure coffee is delivered on time and without any quality issues.
- Control risk position for the specific origins via daily reports and anticipate any possible delays or loss.
- Control unships and sales match reports to support Inbound & outbound team by providing destinations and contract allocations.
- Cupping daily with QC Manager to ensure the quality of pre-shipment and arrival samples are in accordance with the agreed contract.
- Develop new customers via trade contacts, (by ways of “cold calling”, attending at trade shows and other potential customer acquisition strategies).
- Recurring check-ins on existing, dormant and prospect customers.
- Enhance knowledge in Market Risks to support the managers to mitigate any related risks.
- Support managers with strategies by analysing Supply/Demand and market move to optimize the gains and protect against any market move.
- Enhance knowledge of Green Coffee Grading and Cupping to support QC Department and to efficiently manage any Quality rejections and claims.
- Manage the spot inventory and prepare offering list.
- Prepare periodic market reports for clients and supervisors.
- Continuous monitoring of A/R of customers.
- Regular checks / follow-up with the logistics team on shipments and deliveries in due time. Empower logistic teams to avoid problems/ delays etc and offer support in resolutions.
- Represent company at trade shows and conventions and organize meetings with suppliers and customers.
- Identify and evaluate competitive products, new markets, new product opportunities, and competitors.
- Buy and Sell Green coffee in close communication and alignment with trading team and accordingly input contracts within 24 hours of the business confirmation.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
This position requires analytical and technical skills, an understanding of coffee quality, Futures/Hedge knowledge, communication skills in order to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
Qualifications & Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in international trade, supply chain, logistics, business administration, or finance management required.
- 5+ years commercial experience in coffee preferred (with focus on green coffee, quality, sensory, grading, future/option trading).
- Experience with commodities is preferred
Knowledge/Skills:
- Basic understanding of commodity markets and futures trading is desirable; willingness to learn is essential.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret market data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP or trading systems is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional and multicultural teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commercial awareness.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for supplier visits, customer meetings, and industry events, as required.
- Interest in developing knowledge of green coffee grading, cupping, quality evaluation, and market risk management through on-the-job training.
- Foreign Language (Spanish) is a plus.
