The purpose of the Project Manager position is to manage allocated projects (and bids as required) within the Underwater Systems business portfolio. Here within Australia, Underwater Systems delivers projects, products and services that are critical to the Royal Australian Navy and allied Navy’s. This includes the domain sectors of Undersea Warfare (Submarines, Torpedoes, Undersea Surveillance), Mine Warfare, Surface Ships and the Acoustics Centre of Excellence.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Project Manager you are accountable for:
- Managing Projects (and Bids as required) in accordance with Thales guidelines ensuring it addresses the objectives of the business.
- Liaising closely and collaboratively with functional teams to ensure efficient delivery of bids/projects.
- Effective management of stakeholders and associated communications both external and internal.
- Developing customer relationships by ensuring products and services delivered exceed where possible, customer expectations.
- Developing winning strategies, with specific win themes and ensuring it translates into compelling offers.
- Conducting gate reviews in accordance with Thales Governance framework.
- Preparing, monitoring and managing Bid and Project integrated schedule, budget, baselines, risks and opportunities.
- Coordinating and negotiating input from suppliers, partners and oversees subcontractors.
- Preparing and presenting all internal and customer reporting requirements.
- Develop KPI’s and conduct analysis to provide early alert to the business of all significant emerging variances and risks including mitigation plans to counter variances and risks.
- Guiding, coaching and providing direct support to less experienced bid and project managers.
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:
- Technical Project Management and Delivery experience (development of new products/solutions)
- Degree qualified in business, engineering, project management or other suitable discipline.
- IPMA Certification or ability to secure certification (IPMA C)
- Proven and effective leadership skills with a high level of interpersonal and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams.
- At least three years’ Bid and Project Management experience with multi-partners / major co-contractors.
- Experience working with complex Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
- The confidence and maturity of judgement to represent the company at senior levels with customer organisations both nationally and internationally.
- Exceptional written communication skills including authoring content and editing.
- Strong internal stakeholder management in a matrix organisation.
- Ability to resolve conflict and negotiate sound commercial outcomes.
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques.
- Experience with Defence ASDEFCON procurement
GOOD TO KNOW
Prior to being offered employment, you will need to complete pre-employment police and (role dependent) medical checks. A Defence security clearance is required for this role; applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.
