Job Summary and Responsibilities
As Respiratory Care Manager, you will lead the Respiratory Care technical staff by providing instruction, supervision, and performance evaluation while assisting the Director in overall department management, and contributing directly to patient care. You'll help plan, design, implement, and maintain programs and policies for patient care across Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Services. You'll work to ensure that patient, physician, and staff needs are met while driving quality, cost-effective care improvements, all in support of CommonSpirit Health's mission.
Every day, you will supervise, instruct, and evaluate Respiratory Care Practitioners, assist the Director with department management, and provide direct patient care. You'll serve as a professional role model, promoting a culture of accountability and upholding ethical and moral standards for yourself and those you supervise. Your daily contacts will include subordinates, co-workers, patients, medical staff, and physicians.
To be successful in this role, you will need strong leadership, instructional, and evaluative skills, along with advanced clinical expertise in respiratory care. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities are essential for staff supervision and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Manages the daily operations of the Respiratory Care Department to ensure compliance to all standards of practice and licensing/regulatory requirements.
- Develops and implements strategies in operational improvements and/or new services that are consistent with organizational strategic and business development planning.
- Manages existing programs, as well as program development, implementation of new respiratory programs, and assessment/revision of existing programs in keeping with a changing health care environment.
- Plans, organizes, and supervises the daily activities of the Respiratory Department, including volunteers and respiratory therapy students, to ensure consistency with standards of practice.
- Ensures adherence to licensing/regulatory standards, department policies, and service needs of the facility.
- Prepares the annual department budget and ensures compliance to operational expectations and productivity standards.
Job Requirements
Required
Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field, along with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field
Licensure and Certifications:
Respiratory Care Practitioner: NE (RESP-LIC:NE)
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR)
Basic Life Support Instructor (BLS-I)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor (ACLS-I)
- If working in a unit located in or traveling to Iowa, or a Behavioral Health/Psych unit: Mandatory Reporter Adult and Mandatory Reporter Child certification required within six (6) months, tracked through the Learning System
- Possess strong knowledge and skills in Respiratory Therapy procedures along with an understanding of project management
- Ability to provide day-to-day work direction, provide orientation and training to other staff members, and have a thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, protocols, and professional standards
- Possess a high level of motivation, team orientation, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to treating others with dignity and respect
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree along with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience

At CHI Health Good Samaritan, you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.
