Service Technician

An established industrial automation and engineering company is looking for an experienced Technical Service Technician to join its technical support team.

The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical support across industrial electrical and automation systems, with a particular focus on Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), motor control, fault finding and software-based diagnostic environments.

This role is suited to a technically strong, practical individual who is comfortable working on industrial sites, resolving breakdowns and supporting clients with equipment commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend client sites to investigate and resolve electrical and automation-related faults.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) and associated motor control systems.
• Configure, parameterise, commission and replace VSDs where required.
• Perform electrical and automation fault finding on industrial equipment.
• Use software-based diagnostic and configuration tools to identify system faults.
• Support PLC, HMI and control-system troubleshooting where required.
• Diagnose communication faults within industrial automation systems.
• Assist with installation, commissioning and testing of automation and electrical equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and technical inspections.
• Identify recurring faults and recommend corrective or preventative solutions.
• Work closely with engineering and automation teams on more complex technical issues.
• Complete detailed service reports following site visits.
• Maintain records of configurations, parameter changes and equipment replacements.
• Communicate professionally with client maintenance, technical and production teams.
• Provide technical recommendations aimed at improving equipment reliability and reducing downtime.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Industrial Automation or a related technical field.
• Trade qualification, diploma or technical certification advantageous.
• Proven experience in an industrial electrical or automation environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Variable Speed Drives / Variable Frequency Drives.
• Experience working within software-based automation or diagnostic environments.
• Strong electrical and automation fault-finding ability.
• Good understanding of motor control and industrial electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Willingness to travel to client sites when required.

Exposure to platforms such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, Danfoss, Rockwell / Allen-Bradley or similar industrial automation technologies would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will have progressed beyond basic electrical maintenance and be comfortable working across electrical systems, VSDs and industrial automation software.

Candidates should be able to independently diagnose faults, connect to and configure drives, interpret alarms and system behaviour, and provide practical solutions that help minimise client downtime.
