Position Title: Lead Certified Medical Assistant

Full Time Position – Monday through Friday, 8:30-5pm

40 hours per week during hours of operation.

 

Department: Osborn Family Health Center

Reports to: Director of Nursing

Department Approval: Chief Executive Officer

 

Job Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is part of the care team in the ambulatory patient care setting and directly interacts with the patient, family, and caregiver in person, over the telephone and via the patient portal.   The CMA advocates for the patient in the delivery of quality, cost effective patient care by performing the clinical tasks and duties assigned by the physician, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, and practice leadership to improve individual and population health.   As the Medical Assistant Lead/Floater working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care during clinical hours.  They are responsible for supervisory duties for medical assistant staff within their department.  This position will train new staff in their department.  They will be required to float to various departments as needed.

 

MAJOR DUTIES & REPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate the mission, vision, and values of Osborn Family Health Center in behaviors, practices, and decision.
  • Places patient in exam rooms, obtain history and vital signs, and document in the medical record.
  • Administers intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injection. Performs CLIA Waived testing and facilities medication refill management as directed by the Provider (in accordance with State's CMA scope of practice).
  • Assists providers with compliance with UDS Measures and health maintenance.
  • Participates in care team huddles daily and as needed.
  • Assists in the examination and procedures for patients with the provider.
  • Serves as a patient advocate in direct interactions with the patient and care team.
  • Answers telephone calls and messages within the same day.
  • Assist with pre-visit preparation within 24 hours of the patient visit.
  • Provide translation assistance as needed.
  • Follow-up on "no shows," cancelled and rescheduled appointments.
  • Maintains confidentiality when interaction with patients, families, personnel and public.
  • Assists in the supervision of work and performance of clinical staff including medical assistants and other support staff, as instructed, including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed.
  • Coordinate the inventory ordering and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies using appropriate systems.
  • Provide support for the medical assistant team, which includes all functions of a medical assistant.
  • Work with other team members and managers to implement daily duties and new programs as needed.
  • Work with staff that need additional education and training.
  • Provides care with consideration for the cultural needs of the patient and/or family.
  • Exhibits age specific competency with all age groups.
  • Maintains strict HIPAA compliance according to Osborn Family Health Center's policy.
  • Assist with other administrative projects and tasks as needed.
  • Attend on-site/off-site community engagement activities and on-site/off-site clinic events as needed.

 

Minimum Certifications, Registry and/or Licenses Required: Certified Medical Assistant.

Per NJBOME – Must be a graduate of a 330-hour Medical Assistant program which is accredited by the Department of Education.

Must be certified by one of the following certifying bodies: NHA, AMT, NCCT, AAMA, AMCA, NCMA or NAHP.

 

Minimum Degree and Experience Required:

High school diploma or GED equivalent required

Experience as a Certified Medical Assistant with at least one year of office experience required

CPR Certified by The American Heart Association

Bilingual in Spanish
