Description
Excentium, Inc. is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) that provides Cybersecurity Consulting and Advisory, Assessment, and Cybersecurity Architecture and Engineering services to government and commercial organizations. Excentium is an accredited FedRAMP Independent Assessor (IAS), formerly known as a Third-Party Assessment Organization (3PAO).
We are building our team in support of a major U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) cybersecurity architecture and engineering program, and have an opportunity for a Artificial Intelligence Engineer to support enterprise security architecture, engineering, and operations across VA's Office of Information Security (OIS).

Position Description:
The Artificial Intelligence Engineer will support the design, development, and secure deployment of AI and machine learning capabilities within VA's cybersecurity operations, applying data science and engineering expertise to real-world detection, automation, and risk-modeling use cases. This role ensures AI systems used or delivered under the program meet VA and federal requirements for trustworthy, secure, and responsible AI.
Position Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in IT security, data science, or software engineering, including 5+ years involving the design, development, or deployment of AI or machine learning systems in enterprise or government environments. A PhD in a related field may substitute for up to 5 years of the required experience.
- Experience building, training, and deploying machine learning models and AI systems in a production environment.
- Experience with data collection, cleaning, and analysis techniques to prepare datasets for AI modeling.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software developers, and domain experts, to apply AI solutions to real-world problems in large enterprise or government environments.
Educational Requirements/Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Business Administration, Business Management, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Assurance, Information Security, Information Resource Management, or a related field.
- A current certification satisfying DoD 8570/8140 workforce requirements at IAT Level III, IAM Level III, or IASAE Level III. IAT, IAM, and IASAE are qualification levels, not certifications in themselves — each level is satisfied by an approved certification such as CISSP, CASP+ CE, CISA, CISM, CCISO, GCIH, or CSSLP, depending on the level and category.
Desired Certifications:
- Trusted AI Safety Expert (TAISE) or an equivalent AI security/governance credential
- Relevant cloud AI/ML platform certification (e.g., AWS Certified Machine Learning, Azure AI Engineer Associate)
