WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Office of Eligibility and Support Services (OESS) is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic professional to serve as a TERM Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist I to help us achieve our mission. OESS serves as the point of entry for federal, State, and County health programs targeted to residents of Montgomery County who are uninsured and have limited incomes. The OESS offices confirm eligibility for Care for Kids, Prenatal Care, Dental Services, and Project Access specialty care clinic referrals. This position determines eligibility for assistance programs administered by the Maryland Department of Health and the Family Investment Administration of the Maryland Department of Human Services. The position interviews, processes, and completes Intake applications and redeterminations in Maryland Health Connection for all public benefit programs and completes all actions necessary to continue or terminate benefits in accordance with federal and state regulations. The caseworker performs case management functions for all assigned cases. This would include screening walk-in customers, obtaining, and verifying information necessary to determine eligibility, such as income, rent, household composition, utilities, and citizenship. The position makes referrals to other agencies when appropriate, facilitates customers’ efforts in accessing information, and partners with other public and private service providers.
Multilingual Skills: Basic Multilingual skills, preferably in Spanish, and the ability to provide interpretation services to Spanish-speaking customers are preferred.
- Work Location: This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at off-site locations.
- Medical Protocol: A medical exam and drug screen will be required for the selected candidate.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Experience: None.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Medical Protocol: If selected for this position, you will be required to undergo a medical evaluation and drug screening to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role, which will be a significant factor in the final hiring decision.
Preferred Criteria:
The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas:
- Experience applying Federal, State, and/or County regulations pertaining to eligibility for Maryland Medicaid and Maryland Children’s Health Program, and Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion or County Health Programs.
- Experience navigating eligibility systems such as Maryland Health Connection, Enrollment and Eligibility, Medicaid Management Information System, and BEACON, and/or eICM automated eligibility systems and databases.
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations and providing results-driven customer service excellence.
