Description
Who we are
Monex Europe is a specialist in commercial foreign exchange and international payments, part of the global Monex Group, a financial institution founded in 1985. We help corporates and institutions manage FX exposure, execute hedging strategies and move money across borders.
In 2024 we facilitated $200 billion in FX turnover, managed $16.1 billion in assets and processed 1.7 million transactions for more than 73,000 clients worldwide. We operate across the Americas, Asia and Europe, with offices in Mexico, Madrid, Amsterdam, London, the USA, Canada and Singapore.
Spain is a growth market for us. In 2024 we established two dedicated Spanish entities — Monex Europa S.L. (payment institution) and Monex Europe Markets S.V., S.A.U. (investment firm) — consolidating our European operations and investing directly in the Madrid platform. This role sits at the centre of that investment.
About the Role
The Head of Desk owns one of the primary revenue-generating areas of the business. You are accountable for your desk hitting weekly, monthly and quarterly revenue targets — and for doing so in full alignment with our code of conduct and regulatory obligations.
You lead a team, set the commercial rhythm, and act as the bridge between front-office execution and the wider Sales leadership agenda. You will build capability, identify and develop talent for promotion, and set the tone for how Monex sells: clients' long-term interests first, fair outcomes, sustainable revenue.
Reporting Line
This position reports directly to our Head of Sales and carries visibility across the business. You will lead a team of Executives and Associates in Madrid while working closely with Dealing, Compliance, Credit & Risk, Operations and Marketing — and you will gain exposure across our different offices, partnering with colleagues in London, Amsterdam and the wider Monex network as the desk grows.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue & commercial ownership
Own the daily, weekly and quarterly performance of the desk; set revenue targets and associated KPIs
Monitor the effectiveness of sales strategies against performance and adapt where necessary
Lead contract negotiations with clients, ensuring commerciality and margin discipline
Feed insight from the desk back to Sales leadership on new products and initiatives that will grow revenue
Team leadership & development
Manage, coach and develop a team of Account Managers, driving both sales capability and product and regulatory understanding
Identify talent suitable for promotion based on demonstrated managerial and leadership skills
Manage performance directly, including underperformance, and create clear progression paths through the business
Meet weekly with the Head of Sales to assess performance against KPIs
Ensure the desk hires people assessed as fit and proper for their roles
Sales process & enablement
Implement an effective sales pipeline and lead-tracking process
Embed sales best practice across the desk
Ensure client databases (FXDB, Salesforce, pipeline trackers) are used effectively and turned into competitive advantage.
Conduct, risk & regulatory
Balance revenue delivery with Monex's compliance framework, working under the direction of the Head of Sales
Ensure adherence to remuneration policies and promote sound risk management in line with applicable regulatory requirements
Ensure adherence to Compliance policies — Treating Customers Fairly, Pricing, Gifts & Entertainment, Complaints, Training & Competence
Escalate complaints and conduct breaches promptly and support investigations as required
Ensure all sales activity is logged and maintained per regulatory requirements (call recordings, FXDB logs, correspondence)
Identify systems and controls weaknesses, flag conflicts of interest, and participate actively in Sales Audits and Risk Assessments
Market presence
Stay commercially sharp on competitor activity and use professional networks to inform desk strategy
Oversee distribution and marketing activity for the desk, including materials, presentations and roadshows
Represent Monex at client events and industry conferences
Requirements
Fluency in English and German is mandatory — English is the working language across Monex Europe, and you will lead client relationships and desk activity in German. Additional European languages are a plus.
Approximately 8–10 years' experience in FX, international payments or financial markets sales, with a proven track record of revenue delivery against target.
Experience leading or mentoring a sales team — or clear readiness to step into first-line management.
Strong commercial negotiation skills and comfort owning pricing and margin conversations.
Solid understanding of the regulatory environment governing FX and payments in Europe.
Track record of building and managing a pipeline in a target-driven environment.
If you like wild growth and working with happy, enthusiastic over-achievers, you'll enjoy your career with us!
