Overview

To provide safe and properly functioning clinical equipment systems and electronic instrumentation in a cost-effective manner.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Develops policies and procedures related to the use, management, and support of biomedical equipment.
  • Helps design, implement, and maintain safe and properly functioning Clinical Equipment.
  • Installation, inventory, inspection, and repair of Clinical/Biomedical equipment systems and electronic equipment.
  • Attend training and seminars as required.
  • Maintain proficiency in the operation and repair of assigned equipment.
  • Make presentations at shop meetings.
  • Performs in-services as requested.
  • Participates in on-call coverage. 
  • Process equipment recall and alerts according to assignments.
  • Maintains equipment records.
  • Uses a Team approach to the management of clinical equipment systems and other electronic equipment systems.
  • Uses critical thinking skills to inspect, troubleshoot and repair clinical equipment systems and electronic equipment.
  • Completes work orders and documents completion of work orders and outcomes.
  • Assists with cross-training of other employees on equipment safety, operation, repair, and usage.
  • May cross train to work in other areas of Clinical Engineering. 
  • Assists with project implementation.

    • Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
    • Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    High School Diploma or GED required. An associate’s degree in Biomedical, IT Technology, or Electronics or equivalent experience is preferred however not required. Must be able to operate electronic devices DMM’s, safety analyzers, and patient simulators.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable as defined by DCH’s insurer.  Such standard is subject to time. Must be able to function well in a patient care environment, interacting with healthcare staff, patients, and visitors. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

     

    Working Conditions:

    WORK CONTEXT

     

    • Daily communication with others, either face-to-face, by telephone, radio, or other forms of communication.
    • Possible exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, chemicals and/or hazardous materials, voltages, steam, pressurized air, or fluids.
    • Requires possible intermittent wearing of common protective or safety equipment.

     

    PHYSICAL FACTORS

     

    • Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Climbing stairs and ladders. Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking, reaching, handling, feeling, and working in a confined space.
    • Good manual dexterity.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
    • Physical presence onsite is essential
