Research Engineer I (Trust Technologies)

Nanyang Technological University’s National Centre for Research in Digital Trust (DTC) is a Trust Technology Research Centre to execute a national program to help put Singapore into a strong trust hub. The key objective is to support efforts to create a trusted digital environment for its people and businesses by providing businesses and consumers with greater assurance and confidence as they digitalize.

We are looking for a Research Engineer to develop, implement, deploy, and maintain backend systems and platform infrastructure for Trust Technology and related areas such as privacy and security, which are important components of digital trust platforms. The role will focus on developing secure and scalable backend services, managing data storage and user information, and supporting the deployment and operation of web-based applications.

Key Responsibilities:

 

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain backend services and platform infrastructure to support research prototypes and digital trust applications.
• Work closely with Centre’s researchers to translate research outputs into scalable and deployable system implementations.
• Set up and manage databases, storage systems, and backend services, including platforms such as Supabase, with appropriate security controls for protecting user information and sensitive data.
• Deploy and maintain web applications, including authentication, authorisation, access control, and related application security mechanisms.
• Support platform deployment, system integration, monitoring, maintenance, and scaling to ensure reliable and secure system operation.

Job Requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in computer science/ engineering or related fields.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, C/C++ or other backend development languages is required. Experience with backend development frameworks will be an advantage.
• Proficiency with working with common Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL etc. (including shell scripting) is required.
• Proficiency and experience in backend system development, API development, and deployment of web-based applications is required.
• Proficiency in installing, configuring, and using SQL databases is required. Experience with backend and database platforms such as PostgreSQL, Supabase, or other cloud-based data services will be an advantage.
• Experience in deploying and maintaining applications in cloud-based or containerised environments, and supporting system scalability and availability, will be advantageous.
• Experience in implementing authentication, authorisation, access control, and security mechanisms for web applications and backend services will be advantageous.
