Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing Student Success and Advising coordinates and executes student success initiatives across the nursing program. This position manages the daily operations of comprehensive advising, retention, progression, and student support services that promote academic achievement, well-being, persistence to graduation, and NCLEX readiness. The Assistant Director serves as a key resource for faculty advisors, implements student success programming, coordinates new student onboarding, and utilizes student data to apply evidence-based interventions supporting diverse learners.

This position works collaboratively with nursing faculty, academic affairs, student services, accessibility resources, and university staff to foster a culture of student success and belonging.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Retention Coordination & Data Tracking

• Program Execution: Implement and coordinate nursing student success and retention activities, utilizing student data systems to identify and support at-risk students.

• Outcome Tracking: Monitor and compile data on student progression, retention, graduation, and licensure outcomes to share with nursing leadership and evaluation committees.

• Reporting: Contribute data and summaries for annual success reports to support ongoing institutional and accreditation standards.

Academic Advising & Case Management

• Advising Coordination: Serve as a lead nursing advisor; assist leadership in developing advising guidelines and provide operational support/training to faculty advisors.

• Direct Student Coaching: Provide direct academic success coaching and case management for nursing students facing academic or personal challenges; connect students with campus wellness, tutoring, and financial aid resources.

• Workshops & Skill Building: Facilitate student success workshops focused on study skills, time management, test-taking strategies, and professional identity in nursing.

Student Transition & Engagement

• Onboarding: Coordinate nursing student orientations, onboarding activities, and transition initiatives, particularly for students advancing into clinical coursework.

• Targeted Communication: Manage student outreach campaigns regarding progression requirements, key deadlines, and available academic resources.

Recruitment & Campus Partnerships

• Recruitment Support: Assist with recruitment and yield events for nursing programs, including preview days, transfer student information sessions, and high school outreach.

• Collaborative Advocacy: Represent the nursing department on campus-wide retention committees and partner with university resources to help students eliminate barriers to graduation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a closely related field.

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant, professional experience. 

Consideration may be given to candidates with:

• Experience working within a nursing or health professions program.

• Experience in academic advising, student success, higher education administration, counseling, or student support services

• Experience coordinating small teams, student employees, or cross-functional projects.

• Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Banner, Salesforce, Navigate) and utilizing data to track student milestones.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and a diverse student population.

• Basic understanding of nursing progression pipelines and licensure (NCLEX) preparation timelines.
