Since launching its first program in Morocco in 2013, it has expanded to 10 countries across the continent and aims to expand to all 54 of Africa’s countries in the next ten years. To date, CorpsAfrica has hosted hundreds of volunteers across Morocco, Senegal, Malawi, and Rwanda, who have completed over 800 projects, including building wells, schools, roads, and irrigation systems; establishing literacy programs; and supporting vegetable and livestock farms.

Overview of the Position:

CorpsAfrica/Rwanda is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Intern to support the day-to-day activities of the Finance function. The Finance Intern will assist with financial documentation, transaction recording, payment processing, reconciliations, filing, procurement documentation, and other routine finance activities. 

This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in nonprofit financial management while supporting the Finance team in maintaining accurate records, proper documentation, and compliance with CorpsAfrica policies and procedures. 

LOCATION: Kigali, Rwanda

REPORTS TO: Finance & Administrative Coordinator, CorpsAfrica/Rwanda. Works closely with the Accountant and receives functional support from the Regional and HQ Finance teams as required. 

Specific Responsibilities: 

Financial Records & Bookkeeping 

• Support the review of payment requests to ensure required supporting documents are attached before processing. 
• Assist with preparing payment documentation for petty cash, bank transfers, and other payments. 
• Support the recording of financial transactions in the accounting system, including appropriate coding, under the supervision of the accountant.
• Assist with monthly bank and petty cash reconciliations. 
• Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy finance files. 
• Support the filing and tracking of invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, and other financial documents. 
• Assist with organizing and maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

 

Financial Reporting & Budget Support 

• Assist with compiling information required for monthly financial reports.
• Support the tracking of expenditures against approved budgets.
• Assist with updating finance trackers, including payment, expense, and budget monitoring tools. 
• Support the preparation of schedules and documentation required for financial reporting. 
• Assist with basic financial data analysis as required. 

Procurement & Vendor Support 

• Assist with maintaining procurement documentation, including quotations, purchase orders, and supporting records. 
• Support the maintenance of the supplier/vendor register. 
• Assist with following up on invoices and other required documentation from vendors. 
• Support the filing and organization of procurement records. 
• Assist with maintaining asset and inventory records and periodic physical verification. 

Staff & Volunteer Finance Support 

• Assist with processing staff and volunteer reimbursements and other approved payments. 
• Support the preparation and verification of volunteer stipend schedules.
• Assist in checking supporting documentation submitted for reimbursements and advances. 
• Respond to routine finance documentation queries and refer more complex matters to the accountant or finance & administrative coordinator. 

Audit & Compliance Support 

• Assist with organizing financial documents required for internal and external audits. 
• Support retrieval and filing of documentation requested during audits.
• Assist with maintaining finance records in accordance with corpsafrica documentation and retention requirements.
• Support the finance team with schedules and documentation required for statutory and donor compliance. 

Other Responsibilities 

• Support the finance team with routine administrative and finance activities as required. 
• Contribute to maintaining accurate and organized finance records and trackers. 
• Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
• Perform other finance-related duties assigned by the finance & administrative coordinator. 

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or final-year student in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. 
• Previous internship or practical experience in finance or accounting is an advantage but not required. 
• Basic understanding of accounting and financial management principles.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft excel and other Microsoft office or google workspace applications. 
• Familiarity with accounting software such as Quickbooks is an added advantage. 
• Good numerical, analytical, and organizational skills. 
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn. 
• Ability to follow procedures and work effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; French is an added advantage.
• High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
