The Opportunity: Lead the Legal Operations function for a Fortune 80 in-house legal department

As our Legal Department continues to evolve and expand, we are seeking a highly strategic and operationally focused Senior Manager, Legal Operations to lead efforts to refine and optimize how legal services are delivered across the organization.

This is an exciting role for a seasoned legal operations professional to partner with legal leadership, drive innovation, optimize technology and processes, and help shape the future operating model of a dynamic in-house legal function. It is a hybrid position which requires a minimum of 2 days per week in our Framingham, MA headquarters.                                                                    

What You'll Do:

As Senior Manager, Legal Operations, you will be a trusted partner to Legal leadership, responsible for enabling attorneys and legal professionals to operate more efficiently, strategically, and cost-effectively. You will lead initiatives spanning technology, analytics, process improvement, vendor management, and department operations while helping define and execute the Legal Department's long-term operations roadmap.

Drive Legal Technology & Digital Transformation

• Lead the evaluation, implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of technology platforms, including matter management, workflow automation, document and knowledge management, e-billing, e-discovery, invoicing, budgeting, and AI-enabled solutions.
• Identify opportunities to leverage enterprise technologies and emerging tools to enhance Legal Department effectiveness and scalability.
• Serve as the primary liaison between Legal and IT partners, ensuring successful implementation, governance, and support of legal technologies.
• Develop recommendations that align technology investments with strategic legal operations priorities and future business needs.

Deliver Data-Driven Insights

• Initially build and oversee automated reporting, dashboards, and key performance metrics that support leadership decision-making.
• Monitor and analyze legal spend, including outside counsel costs, consulting services, staff augmentation, budgets, forecasts, and accruals.
• Develop metrics and reporting around workload volume, turnaround times, resource utilization, and operational bottlenecks.
• Provide actionable insights and regular business reviews to Legal Department and senior leadership.

   

Lead Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

• Identify and implement opportunities to streamline workflows, improve service delivery, and increase visibility into legal work and resource allocation.
• Support the development and maintenance of legal knowledge management resources, including templates, clause libraries, playbooks, policies, and training materials.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to enhance legal intake, triage, and service delivery processes.
• Drive workflow standardization, automation initiatives, and client self-service solutions where appropriate.
• Support department-wide transformation initiatives, continuous improvement programs, and related change management activities.

Enhance Key Department Operations

• Oversee key operational activities, including new Associate onboarding, vendor onboarding, access management, records management, retention programs, and legal subscriptions.
• Support law firm and vendor management activities, including engagement terms, billing guidelines, renewals, and rate structure consistency.
• Support initiatives to communicate with business stakeholders across the organization.
• Develop and coordinate department communications, newsletters, meetings, summits, and other engagement initiatives that strengthen collaboration and community across the Legal organization.

What You'll Bring: Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent professional experience.

• Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in legal operations, legal project management, or a related field within a large corporate legal department.

• Demonstrated experience implementing, administering, and optimizing legal technology platforms and solutions.

• Strong background in legal spend management, including outside counsel management, budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and invoice review processes.

• Experience reviewing, negotiating, and managing commercial and vendor agreements.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

• Advanced legal or business education is a plus.

• Professional certifications such as CLOC, PMP, Legal Operations, Contract Management, or similar credentials are preferred.
