Introduction to the team:

The Air Filters & Ranking team at Expedia Group sits at the heart of how travelers discover and select flights. We are a backend‑focused, data‑driven team that builds the intelligence behind flight search results—ensuring that millions of customers around the world can find the right itinerary quickly, confidently, and at scale.

What We Build
Our team owns and evolves the Flights Central Tool, as well as the filters and ranking systems that shape what travelers see on the flight search results page.

Flights Central Tool
We provide a central control plane for flight experiences: configuration, feature flags, experiments, and insights that let product, analytics, and operations teams fine‑tune how flight offers are selected and presented. This tool is the hub where business strategy meets technical execution for air.

Ranking & Offer Selection
We integrate ML models at multiple layers of the stack to score, blend, and rank flight offers in real time. Our goal is to surface the most relevant options—balancing price, convenience, reliability, flexibility, and traveler preferences—so that customers see compelling choices at the very top of the results.

Filters & Intent Understanding
We design and power flight filters (e.g., stops, times, airlines, fare attributes, flexibility) so that travelers can narrow hundreds of itineraries down to a small, manageable set. We are increasingly intent‑aware, using behavior and context to order and apply filters in ways that speed up decision‑making.

In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality software that delivers reliable, accessible, and intuitive customer experiences.
• Translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions using modern software development technologies and sound engineering practices.
• Contribute to low-level system design, API design, and data modeling to support maintainable, resilient, secure, and operationally reliable applications.
• Own features or components across design, implementation, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, production support, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate across engineering, product, design, and other technical teams to deliver outcomes and apply your expertise across multiple problem spaces.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve product and engineering outcomes, applying foundational AI/ML concepts to real-world products and workflows.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
• 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience owning features or components within a service or application from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Proficiency in software development, API integration, data modeling, version control, automated testing, debugging, and production support.
• Familiarity with low-level system design and developing maintainable, reliable, secure, and operationally resilient software solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience delivering software products at scale with a focus on performance, accessibility, usability, security, and operational excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to make data-driven technical decisions, diagnose complex issues, and improve the reliability and maintainability of production applications.
• Experience contributing to architecture and design decisions across multiple services or technical domains while collaborating effectively with partner teams.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools or applying AI/ML concepts to improve product capabilities, engineering workflows, or customer outcomes.
• Experience safely integrating, monitoring, and operating AI/ML-enabled features within software applications, with attention to reliability, governance, and measurable impact.
