Part-Time, Temporary, Non-benefited, Year-round position
Aqua Fitness Instructors plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging water-based exercise classes for participants of varying ages, abilities, and swimming experience. Participants may include adolescents and adults, including individuals with special needs. Class sizes may vary.
Schedule
The City is currently seeking Aqua Fitness Instructors to teach:
- Deep-water classes: 11:00 a.m. Monday throughFriday
- Shallow-water classes at 8:00 a.m. Monday throughSaturday
The anticipated schedule will average approximately 1.25 to 5 hours per week, depending on class assignments and operational needs.
Salary
$22.00 to $28.50 per hour
Duties
- Plan and lead safe, well-structured, and effective Aqua Fitness classes.
- Adapt instruction and exercise activities to accommodate participants' ages, experience levels, abilities, and individual needs.
- Maintain constant supervision of participants while providing instruction and individual assistance.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and participants regarding class activities, participant needs, and safety concerns.
- Apply basic exercise-science principles as they relate to Aqua Fitness.
- Become familiar with the descriptions, requirements, and procedures for Aqua Fitness classes offered by the City of Morgan Hill.
- Respond appropriately to injuries and medical emergencies, including performing rescues, administering first aid and CPR, and summoning supervisors and emergency personnel as needed.
- Promote and maintain the safety of all participants during Aqua Fitness classes.
- Complete and submit Accident/Incident Reports to the supervisor within 24 hours of an incident.
- Follow City policies, procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic exercise science, aquatic fitness techniques, and water safety practices.
- Ability to plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging Aqua Fitness classes.
- Ability to adapt instruction and exercises to participants with varying ages, abilities, fitness levels, and swimming experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with participants, supervisors, and staff and respond appropriately to safety concerns and emergencies.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- Previous experience teaching Aqua Fitness classes is desirable.
Certifications
- Current First Aid and CPR certification required within two months of hire.
- Aqua Fitness certification required within one year of hire.
Special Requirements
- Must be available to work assigned class schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be physically capable of sustained walking, standing, climbing, and performing other activities necessary to safely conduct Aqua Fitness classes.
- Must be able to respond appropriately to emergencies and perform the physical duties associated with water rescue, first aid, and CPR.
Selection Process
Applications will be screened and applicants whose experience, skills, and qualifications most closely meet the needs of the position will be invited to participate in an oral interview.
Prior to appointment, candidates must authorize a reference check. Candidates selected for appointment must also successfully complete a background check, including fingerprinting for submission to the California Department of Justice.
