Software Architect

About your role:

The Software Architect will play a key role in the design, modernization, and ongoing evolution of the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), a mission-critical platform that enables businesses and individuals to securely submit federal tax payments electronically. This role will provide architectural leadership for a high-volume, highly secure payment processing environment, guiding the transition from legacy infrastructure to a modern cloud-based platform in Azure Government Cloud. The architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive application and infrastructure strategy, ensure scalability, reliability, and security, and support the delivery of innovative solutions that meet stringent federal compliance and performance requirements.

What you'll do:

• Define target-state architecture, solution patterns, and technical standards for enterprise software applications and services

• Partner with engineering, product, infrastructure, and security teams to translate business and technical requirements into scalable solution designs

• Lead architecture reviews and design decisions for application modernization, integration patterns, data flows, and non-functional requirements

• Evaluate existing systems and identify opportunities to improve performance, resiliency, security, maintainability, and cost efficiency

• Create architecture artifacts including diagrams, standards, reference models, interface definitions, and implementation guidance

• Guide engineering teams on technology selection, application design, cloud adoption, and secure development practices

• Support delivery teams through planning, design validation, technical risk assessment, and issue resolution across the software development lifecycle

Experience you'll need to have:

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, application architecture, or solution architecture for enterprise platforms and distributed systems

• Experience with application integration patterns, application programming interfaces (APIs), data modeling, and system design for high-availability environments

• Experience applying cloud, security, observability, and performance principles across modern software architecture and delivery practices

• Current Department of Treasury EFTPS background check clearance.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field.

Experience that would be great to have:

• Experience with Azure.

• Experience supporting architecture in payments, financial services, or other regulated technology environments

• Experience with containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure automation tools

• Architecture or cloud certifications such as TOGAF, AWS, Azure, or equivalent certifications

How you'll work:

• This role is on-site Monday through Friday in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.

• This role requires use of a computer and audio equipment.

Travel: 

• This role requires occasional travel (up to 10%). Approximately 5% travel off-site or to other office locations is expected.

Salary Range

$146,000.00 - $244,800.00

These pay ranges apply to employees in New Jersey and New York. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
