Role Overview
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this Senior Finance Manager will be the operational backbone of the group finance function. On a monthly basis, you will own the group close from initiation to completion, preparing consolidated three-way financial statements, reviewing journals and maintaining full balance sheet reconciliations across all entities. On a weekly basis, you will maintain the rolling cash flow forecast and coordinate the offshore finance support team. On a daily basis, you will resolve reconciling items, direct transactional processing and support the Financial Controller on group financial matters. This role carries clear ownership of the group’s statutory compliance obligations and its relationship with external auditors, tax advisers and banking partners. You will prepare the monthly SLT report pack and drive the automation of its production, materially reducing manual preparation time. With direct exposure to Board-level reporting and a mandate to improve process, this is a strong platform for progression to Financial Controller.
Responsibilities
- Own the group month-end close process, coordinating inputs from Project Accountants and external finance support, and preparing consolidated three-way financial statements for Board presentation.
- Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations across all entities, including intercompany loans, retentions, WIP, fixed assets and Division 7A compliance.
- Prepare the group’s rolling cashflow forecast and the monthly surety report, and manage bank positions and covenant compliance reporting.
- Review monthly and quarterly BAS across all entities, manage payroll tax, and coordinate income tax returns and TPAR lodgements with external advisers.
- Lead the coordination of the annual external audit, preparing working papers, lead schedules, disclosure notes and flux analysis, and resolving audit queries.
- Prepare consolidated statutory financial statements in accordance with the Australian Accounting Standards.
- Prepare the monthly SLT financial report pack with written commentary on movements, variances and emerging trends, and drive automation of its production.
- Manage and coordinate the external finance support team, reviewing outputs for accuracy before incorporation into group financials.
- Lead finance projects to redefine best in class processes, procedures and compliance. Be a pivotal player in defining the new operating rhythm the finance team will have to effectively business parter with the eider business
Candidate Profile
You are a CA or CPA qualified finance professional with 5 – 8 years’ experience, including at least 2 – 3 years in a multi-entity consolidation or senior financial reporting context. You are degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, with strong technical knowledge of Australian accounting standards and hands-on experience across GST/BAS, payroll tax and income tax coordination. Construction industry experience is strongly preferred, along with proficiency in Jobpac or an equivalent construction ERP and advanced Excel. Experience managing or coordinating offshore or shared services teams is highly regarded. You bring technical rigour and process discipline, you hold yourself and others to the close timetable, and you identify and drive improvements without waiting to be asked.
