Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is an integral member of Angel City FC’s Medical Department and is responsible for supporting the delivery of comprehensive, player-centered healthcare within a high-performance environment.
Reporting to the Director of Medical and working closely with the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will provide day-to-day clinical care to Angel City FC players, including injury prevention, evaluation, acute injury management, treatment, rehabilitation, and support throughout the return-to-play and return-to-performance process.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and proactive communication. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will manage an assigned clinical caseload while working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary medical and performance team to provide coordinated, evidence-informed care that supports both player health and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive athletic training services for Angel City FC players, including injury prevention, first aid and emergency care, injury evaluation, treatment, therapeutic interventions, rehabilitation, and appropriate medical referral.

Manage an assigned clinical caseload and contribute to the development, implementation, and progression of individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans.

Collaborate with the Medical and Performance Departments throughout injury rehabilitation, reintegration, return-to-play, and return-to-performance processes.

Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and appropriately communicate and escalate changes in player health status, clinical findings, rehabilitation progress, or other concerns to the appropriate members of the Medical Department.

Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team that includes the Chief Medical Officer, Team Physicians, Director of Medical, Head Athletic Trainer, Director of Rehabilitation, Director of Performance, Physical Therapists, Performance Coaches, Sports Scientists, Registered Dietitians, Mental Health Providers, massage therapists, chiropractors, and other healthcare and performance professionals.

Develop and implement evidence-informed injury prevention and risk-reduction strategies in collaboration with the Medical and Performance Departments.

Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive player health, treatment, rehabilitation, and participation records within the league-provided electronic medical record system.

Participate in daily medical and performance communication processes to ensure relevant player health and availability information is communicated clearly, accurately, and through appropriate channels.

Contribute to departmental discussions and clinical decision-making through thoughtful communication, collaboration, and the appropriate use of objective and subjective clinical information.

Complete all administrative responsibilities related to player medical care, including medical insurance documentation and coordination as required.

Comply with all NWSL medical standards and reporting requirements, including documentation of player injuries, treatments, participation status, and other league-mandated medical information.

Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism regarding player health information and all other confidential club information.

Build professional, respectful, and trusting relationships with players while maintaining appropriate clinical boundaries and standards of care.

Communicate effectively and professionally with players, coaches, medical and performance staff, club leadership, external providers, and league personnel.

Contribute to a departmental culture of high standards, accountability, collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement.

Seek out and actively participate in continuing education and professional development relevant to sports medicine, athletic training, and the care of elite female athletes.

Assist with ordering, maintaining, and tracking medical supplies and clinical equipment.

Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional athletic training room and clinical environment.

Maintain compliance with OSHA standards, including requirements related to bloodborne pathogens and workplace safety.

Support matchday, training, preseason, travel, and other medical operations as required.

Perform additional duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as assigned by the Director of Medical.
Work Environment & Schedule
Professional soccer requires a non-traditional work schedule. This position requires extensive domestic travel and may include international travel, as well as regular evening, weekend, and holiday work based on the team’s training, match, and travel schedule.
Essential Qualifications

BOC Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing.

Degree from a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training program meeting applicable professional certification requirements.

Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer.

Current CPR/AED certification.

Ability to manage multiple clinical and operational responsibilities in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours and travel extensively with the team.

Personal professional liability insurance as required by the club.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous experience working with elite or professional athletes, preferably within soccer or another high-performance team sport environment.

Experience working within a multidisciplinary medical and performance model.

Understanding and practical application of data-informed rehabilitation and return-to-play decision-making.

Experience working with female athletes and an understanding of considerations relevant to the health and performance of elite female athletes.

Dry needling certification, where permitted within applicable scope of practice.

Advanced training or demonstrated experience in manual therapy techniques.

Compensation
In addition to the benefits outlined above, the salary range for this exempt position is $80,000 to $90,000 annually. The stated range represents Angel City FC’s good-faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, demonstrated expertise, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role.
