Description

Overview

To support the continued growth and complexity of our European operations, we're pleased to be introducing the newly created role of Senior Employment Counsel - Europe. As our first dedicated in-house employment law specialist in Europe, this is a rare opportunity to establish and shape the employment law function across the region, building trusted partnerships with senior HR and business leaders, influencing people strategy, and supporting a dynamic, growing business.

Enterprise Mobility is a family-owned global mobility leader operating in more than 100 countries. Our business spans some of the most recognisable mobility brands in the world, including Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo. For more than 65 years, we've built our reputation on exceptional customer service, operational excellence, innovation and people-first leadership.

The Senior Employment Counsel serves as the lead employment law advisor supporting our operations across Europe. The role provides strategic, commercially focused legal advice to senior HR and business leaders across multiple jurisdictions, helping the organisation navigate complex employment law matters, manage legal risk and support key business objectives. Working as part of our global HR Legal function, the successful candidate will partner closely with stakeholders throughout Europe on a broad range of employment law, employee relations and organisational change matters.

This role reports directly to the Vice President of Employment & Labour, within our Global HR Legal function and maintains a strong partnership with the Vice President of Human Resources for Europe, ensuring alignment with regional priorities and business strategy. Based at our European Headquarters in Egham, UK, the role involves regular collaboration across the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Spain, with occasional European travel as required. Hybrid working arrangements are available, with a minimum expectation of three days per week in the Egham office. Given the relationship-driven nature of the role, we anticipate the successful candidate spending additional time in the office during their first few months to support onboarding, stakeholder engagement and integration into the business.

This position offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including pension scheme, private medical cover, generous annual leave entitlement, and excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression within a global organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary employment law advisor for HR leadership and business leaders across the UK and Europe.
  • Advise on complex employment and labour law matters including employee relations issues, contracts, collective consultation obligations, and workforce transformation initiatives.
  • Partner with senior HR and operational leaders to support strategic workforce initiatives and significant employment-related business decisions.
  • Proactively identify legal risk trends and influence the development of HR processes, policies and practices intended to reduce legal exposure.
  • Lead legal support for sensitive employee relations matters, internal investigations and high-risk employment disputes.
  • Strategically manage employment litigation, governmental agency matters and administrative proceedings across supported jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with external employment counsel throughout Europe.
  • Develop and implement employment law guidance, training, compliance resources and practical tools to support organisational objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted legal business partner, providing commercially focused legal advice and risk assessment.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to broader legal and HR initiatives supporting European operations and long-term business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
  • 8+ years' post-qualification experience in employment law.
  • Significant experience advising on complex employment law matters gained in-house, in private practice, or a combination of both.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and demonstrated ability to coordinate employment law matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience managing significant employment disputes, investigations and legal risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior HR and business stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic problem-solving capability.
  • Experience supporting organisational change programmes, including restructures, collective consultations, TUPE transfers and business integration activities following acquisitions.
  • Fluent English required.
