Office Environment: Remote
Salary: $105,000–$125,000 annually.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Real Estate Accountant / Accounting Manager to join a privately held real estate ownership and development company.
This is a hands-on accounting role for someone who enjoys being in the details, not simply managing or reviewing the work of others. The company is undergoing succession planning, creating an excellent long-term opportunity for the right individual.
The position involves accounting for retail and mixed-use properties, multiple ownership entities, partnerships, and an affiliated development company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle accounting, month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Prepare owner and investor reporting packages, partnership allocations, and capital account reconciliations.
- Perform waterfall calculations, preferred returns, and investor distributions.
- Handle accounting for grocery-anchored retail centers, restaurant tenants, and mixed-use developments.
- Oversee CAM reconciliations, property expenses, and tenant recoveries.
- Support development accounting, construction-in-progress, and intercompany transactions.
- Work closely with ownership and existing leadership through the succession planning process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- Ideally 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate.
- Public accounting foundation highly desirable.
- Strong experience with partnership accounting, owner reporting, and waterfall calculations.
- Experience with retail, mixed-use, office, multifamily, or other commercial properties.
- Proficiency with MRI and/or Yardi and advanced Excel.
- Strong GAAP knowledge, financial reporting, and full-cycle accounting skills.
- Comfortable working independently in a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment.
- CPA a plus, but not required.
