How You Will Make a Difference; What We’re Looking For

The Hotel Manager serves as the on-site general executive for Kempinski Msasa Lodge, Lake Manyara. Leading an intimate 25-key boutique safari lodge, this role is responsible for translating Kempinski’s signature European luxury service into an authentic, remote wilderness setting.

The position demands an agile, hands-on leader who functions as the primary host for travellers while maintaining end-to-end oversight of lodge operations, financial performance, supply chain logistics, remote engineering/utilities infrastructure, team development, and conservation partnership compliance.

Key Responsibilities

1.  Executive Operations & Remote Camp Logistics
  • Direct all day-to-day operations across Rooms/Tented Suites, Food & Beverage, Guiding/Safari Activities, Engineering, Security, and Spa/Wellness.
  • Manage remote logistics, including cold-chain transport, off-grid inventory minimums, fuel management, and bush supply lines to ensure uninterrupted 5-star operations.
  • Oversee physical plant management: solar PV arrays, generator backup systems, borehole water filtration, wastewater treatment, and tent structural preservation.
2. Luxury Guest Experience
  • Lead bespoke check-in experiences, personalised game-drive planning, and hosted bush dinners.
  • Uphold Kempinski service standards and Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) benchmarks tailored to boutique safari camp operations.
  • Oversee unique safari guest touch-points: fly-camping setups, open-vehicle game drives, sun downers, bush breakfasts, and naturalist-led walking safaris.
  • Resolve guest concerns proactively and monitor guest satisfaction metrics (GSS, TripAdvisor, luxury travel network feedback).
3. Supply Chain & Logistics
  • Design and supervise an integrated procurement and supply chain pipeline linking sourcing hubs to remote airstrips and overland delivery corridors.
  • Manage central inventory models to mitigate stock shortages caused by seasonal rains, rough road infrastructure, and park access restrictions.
  • Audit and oversee aviation transfer logistics, guest meet-and-greet services at bush airstrips, and luggage transit flows across properties.
4. Commercial Strategy & Financial Performance
  • Formulate and manage the annual operating budget (OPEX) and capital expenditure plans (CAPEX) with finance leadership.
  • Drive Gross Operating Profit (GOP) through rigorous cost-control across food waste, logistics, energy consumption, and labor efficiency without compromising luxury.
  • Partner with Central Sales & Marketing to optimise boutique lodge distribution, maintaining strong relationships with destination management companies (DMCs), safari operators, and luxury travel consortia.
5. Government, Authority & Community Relations
  • Act as the primary executive liaison with Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, and local District Councils.
  • Ensure 100% statutory compliance regarding concession lease agreements, environmental impact audits (NEMC), and annual park operating permits.
  • Build positive relationships with local pastoralist and agricultural communities, driving community outreach, local purchasing programs, and dispute resolution.
6. People & Culture Leadership
  • Drive regional talent acquisition and and developing local management talent.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture across remote staff villages, overseeing employee accommodations, recreation, canteen services, wellness, and rotational leave rosters.
  • Supervise the Kempinski training curriculum, instilling European luxury hospitality service standards tailored to East African warmth and storytelling.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related discipline. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 6–8 years of luxury hospitality leadership, with at least 3–4 years as Hotel Manager, Camp Manager, or Assistant GM in an ultra-luxury safari lodge or remote boutique resort.
  • Demonstrated pre-opening or re branding experience in remote African destinations is required.
  • Demonstrated track record working within national park and wildlife conservancy regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven success running high-end tented camps, off-grid utilities, and bush logistical operations.
  • Culturally sensitive mentor dedicated to uplifting local communities.
