Lighting Technician

The Lighting Technician is responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining lighting systems for experiential activations, events, and installations. This is a fully onsite role requiring hands-on setup, operation, and troubleshooting of lighting equipment, as well as collaboration with production, creative, and technical teams to achieve the desired visual effects.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up and install lighting rigs, trusses, fixtures, and control systems for events and installations.Operate lighting consoles, dimmers, LED fixtures, spotlights, and special effect lighting.Collaborate with creative and production teams to execute lighting designs according to specifications and desired visual outcomes.Program and operate dynamic lighting cues for events, presentations, and live activations.Inspect and maintain lighting equipment, cables, and accessories, reporting any maintenance or repair needs.Ensure all lighting installations comply with safety regulations, including load limits, rigging standards, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.Troubleshoot technical issues onsite and implement solutions quickly to minimize disruptions during events.Assist with rigging, focusing, color mixing, and special effects setup.Maintain an organized inventory of lighting equipment, documenting usage, condition, and storage needs.Support teardown, transport, and storage of lighting equipment after events or activations.Train or guide junior lighting staff or interns when required.Adhere to all company safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all crew members.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in lighting, theater production, or audiovisual technology is preferred.2+ years of experience in lighting installation, event production, theater, or related experiential/technical environments.Knowledge of lighting systems, control consoles, LED technology, DMX protocols, and electrical safety.Ability to read lighting plots, schematics, and technical diagrams.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure during live events.Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with creative, production, and technical teams.Physical stamina for lifting, climbing ladders or trusses, and standing for long periods.Willingness to travel to and work onsite at event locations, often with flexible hours including nights or weekends.Commitment to safety and proper use of PPE when working at heights or handling electrical equipment.Experience with rigging, trusses, and theatrical or event lighting is a plus.Work Environment & ConditionsFully onsite during events, activations, and installation setups.Exposure to loud noise, stage lighting, electrical equipment, and varying weather conditions depending on venue.Physically demanding: lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and extended standing.Schedule may include long hours, weekends, evenings, or travel depending on event timelines.Why Work at BMF?Contribute to high-impact experiential events that showcase creativity and technical skill.Collaborate with talented designers, producers, and technicians.Develop expertise in lighting technology, event production, and live experiences.Be part of a fast-paced, innovative agency that values craftsmanship, creativity, and teamwork.Opportunities for growth into senior technical roles or lighting design leadership.
