Global Job Level: 100
Reports to: Country Medical Director Germany
Please apply with motivation letter and CV

About the role

The Medical Director Pipeline & Scientific Collaboration will connect scientific strategy, clinical-study improvement, and external collaboration for Pfizer Germany Medical Affairs. The role is designed to make Germany a stronger, more attractive environment for clinical research and pipeline readiness, while ensuring that medical priorities are translated into clear, compliant, and impactful action across therapeutic areas.

The role combines strategic stakeholder engagement, cross-functional orchestration, study-environment improvement, and medical communication. It is particularly suited to a leader with strong knowledge of evidence-based medicine, the political framework, and the institutional environment in which clinical research takes place in Germany, as well as the ability to translate complex scientific, political, and scientific topics into clear messages for internal and external audiences.

The role requires a creative approach to all responsibilities in the context of implementing AI solutions, using digital and AI-enabled ways of working to strengthen information structuring, insight generation, preparation of communication materials, and strategic decision support, with strong human oversight, compliance, and scientific judgment.

A central part of the role is close collaboration with the Country Medical Director Germany: maintaining overview, supporting and organizing internal and external communications, representing the Country Medical Director in appropriate internal and external settings, and providing strategic support and high-quality preparation for key priorities, decisions, and engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Pipeline Collaboration & Clinical-Study Improvement

  • Develop and execute a Germany Medical Affairs collaboration strategy that supports pipeline readiness and strengthens Pfizer Germany’s contribution to clinical research across therapeutic areas.

  • Systematically identify, engage, and develop high-impact internal and external stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, academic institutions, healthcare systems, relevant authorities, professional and industry associations, research networks, and other healthcare-system groups.

  • Enable senior scientific and politically strategic exchanges, including agenda setting, briefing, preparation, follow-up, and sustained relationship management, with clear objectives and compliance-aligned execution.

  • Identify structural and operational barriers in clinical-study conduct and develop pragmatic, scalable, and compliant solutions to improve recruitment support, and Germany’s attractiveness as a study country.

  • Maintain continuous exchange with study-relevant local and global Pfizer functions and translate recurring insights into coordinated action and sustained improvement opportunities.

  • Communicate clinical-study activities and priority action areas to relevant internal and external audiences through compliant briefings, presentations, roundtables, and structured stakeholder formats.

Cross-TA Medical Affairs Positioning & Strategic Communication

  • Strengthen the visibility and perceived contribution of Medical Affairs Germany by making medical achievements, best practices, and innovation initiatives visible in a structured and audience-appropriate way.

  • Identify, prioritize, and further develop cross-therapeutic-area themes and place them consistently in relevant internal and external contexts.

  • Position Medical Affairs Germany as a scientifically credible, forward-looking partner through clear narratives on evidence-based medicine, clinical research, innovation, responsible AI implementation, and patient impact.

  • Drive alignment across Medical Affairs and cross-functional stakeholders so that medical priorities are understood, translated into coordinated action, and connected to measurable impact.

  • Ensure that communication formats are clear, compliant, and practical, enabling senior leaders and cross-functional teams to engage effectively with complex medical-scientific and policy-related topics.

  • Be able to speak to the strategic priorities of the Country Medical Director Germany and represent them appropriately in internal and external communication.

Strategic Support to the Country Medical Director

  • Provide strategic support to the Country Medical Director Germany by preparing, structuring, and organizing internal and external communication materials, briefings, and stakeholder engagements.

  • Maintain an overview of key Medical Affairs priorities, strategic projects, and relevant external developments to support timely, clear, and coordinated leadership communication.

  • Represent the Country Medical Director Germany in appropriate internal and external settings, ensuring consistency of message, scientific accuracy, and compliance with Pfizer policies.

  • Apply creative, AI-enabled approaches to improve preparation, synthesis, project coordination, and strategic communication, while ensuring responsible use, human oversight, and governance.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Significant Medical Affairs leadership experience in pharma or biotech, ideally with responsibility for cross-functional strategy, stakeholder engagement, and the leadership of complex strategic initiatives across diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  • Advanced scientific qualification required; a background in medicine, epidemiology, public health, pharmacy, life sciences, or a related scientific discipline is highly relevant.

  • Proven, systematically acquired qualifications and professional experience in the communications sector and in the policy environment, for example journalistic or public-relations training and studies in political science.

  • Strong understanding of clinical research strategy, Germany’s clinical-study ecosystem, evidence-based medicine, and the translation of scientific insights into practical Medical Affairs strategy.

  • Proven ability to engage senior internal and external stakeholders and to prepare, facilitate, and follow up high-level scientific discussions as well as politically strategic discussions.

  • Proven experience providing strategic support to the Medical Country Lead, preparing and structuring communication content, and representing this content in internal and external communications on behalf of the Medical Country Lead.

  • Demonstrated success in leading complex cross-functional initiatives in a matrix environment, influencing stakeholders without formal authority and aligning diverse groups around shared strategic objectives.

  • Excellent communication skills in German and English, with the ability to make complex scientific, organizational, and policy-related topics clear for different audiences.

  • Demonstrated judgment in compliant medical communication, governance, and responsible handling of scientific information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven qualifications in data processing or the implementation of AI in healthcare.

Organizational Relations
