Description
Powers Plumbing & Heating – San Diego, CA
Powers Plumbing & Heating is looking for an experienced, organized, and hands-on Operations & Parts Manager to join our San Diego team.
This is a key leadership position responsible for helping manage the day-to-day operations of our residential and commercial service plumbing company. The Operations & Parts Manager will work directly with ownership, office staff, field technicians, customers, vendors, and suppliers to keep jobs moving efficiently, maintain proper inventory and material availability, support sales progression, and help improve overall company performance and profitability.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership, solves problems, follows through, and understands that successful operations require a balance of customer service, technician support, sales performance, efficiency, and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Manage Daily Operations – Help oversee day-to-day service operations and ensure technicians, office staff, and management are communicating effectively and company priorities are being completed.
- Parts & Material Management – Order, receive, organize, and track plumbing parts, materials, equipment, and specialty items required for service and installation work.
- Inventory Control – Maintain appropriate inventory levels, monitor usage, reduce unnecessary purchases and waste, and ensure commonly used materials are available when technicians need them.
- Vendor Management – Maintain relationships with supply houses and vendors, obtain pricing, source materials, coordinate deliveries, and help negotiate competitive pricing.
- Support Field Technicians – Assist technicians with locating materials, equipment, technical information, job documentation, and other resources necessary to complete jobs efficiently.
- Sales Development & Revenue Growth – Utilize prior experience and knowledge of the service sales process to help technicians and office staff improve sales performance and maximize opportunities on each service call. Assist with developing and implementing effective sales processes, presenting customers with appropriate repair and replacement options, following up on unsold estimates, and identifying additional legitimate service opportunities based on customer needs.
- Improve Sales Performance – Work with technicians and management to improve conversion rates, average ticket, jobs sold per call, and overall revenue while maintaining Powers Plumbing's commitment to honest, customer-focused service.
- Sales Progression & Follow-Up – Track open estimates and sales opportunities from initial customer interaction through approval, scheduling, and completion. Follow up on outstanding estimates and help ensure qualified opportunities do not fall through the cracks.
- Job Coordination – Coordinate service and installation projects, including material ordering, equipment scheduling, permits when applicable, customer communication, and coordination between the office and field.
- Scheduling & Dispatch Support – Work with office staff and technicians to maintain efficient scheduling, respond to changes throughout the day, and maximize productive technician time.
- ServiceTitan Management – Utilize ServiceTitan to monitor jobs, estimates, invoices, customer information, technician activity, sales opportunities, materials, job progress, and operational performance.
- Job Cost & Profitability Management – Monitor labor, materials, equipment, purchasing, and other job-related costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Customer Service & Problem Resolution – Assist with escalated customer concerns, scheduling issues, job questions, and other situations requiring management involvement.
- Quality Control & Accountability – Help ensure jobs are properly documented, materials are accounted for, work is completed according to company standards, and outstanding items are followed through to completion.
- Fleet & Equipment Coordination – Help monitor company vehicles, tools, equipment, maintenance needs, and repairs to keep field personnel operational.
- Process Improvement – Identify operational inefficiencies and work directly with ownership and the team to improve procedures, communication, inventory control, scheduling, sales processes, and overall company performance.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, construction, home services, or another service-trade environment is strongly preferred.
- Previous operations, service management, parts management, field management, or similar leadership experience preferred.
- Previous knowledge and experience with service sales processes and sales progression is strongly preferred.
- Proven understanding of how to improve sales opportunities, customer options, estimate follow-up, conversion rates, average tickets, and revenue per service call.
- Plumbing industry knowledge is highly preferred.
- Experience managing or supporting field technicians.
- Experience purchasing, sourcing, and managing parts and materials.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, technicians, vendors, office staff, and ownership.
- Basic understanding of job costing, labor efficiency, material costs, gross margin, and profitability.
- Computer proficiency and ability to learn company software.
- ServiceTitan experience is highly preferred.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to occasionally travel locally to supply houses, customer locations, and job sites as necessary.
What We're Looking For
The right person for this position is someone who takes ownership and follows through.
This is not a position where every task will be handed to you individually. We are looking for someone who can recognize problems and opportunities, determine the appropriate next steps, communicate with the right people, and make sure things get completed.
You should understand the relationship between operations and sales. Getting another call on the schedule is important, but so is making sure we are maximizing the opportunities presented by the calls we already have.
That means helping technicians provide customers with appropriate options, ensuring estimates are followed up on, keeping jobs progressing, making sure materials are available, and identifying where improvements can increase productivity, customer satisfaction, and company revenue.
A technician may need a specialty part, a vendor delivery may be delayed, a customer may need immediate attention, an estimate may require follow-up, or the day's schedule may suddenly change. The Operations & Parts Manager needs to be able to evaluate the situation and help keep the company moving forward.
Accountability, organization, communication, leadership, and follow-through are critical to succeeding in this position.
