• Develops and provides classroom and practical instruction to new hires, remedial training as needed 

• Oversees continuing education of the department 

• Develops lesson plans, training aids, and training bulletins 

• Coordinates with external agencies and other city departments to provide training to employees 

• Maintains training calendar and maintains all training records 

• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget requests to include training projections; manages budget line items that pertain to training. 

• Maintains training equipment and materials, and develops specifications as needed

• Attends various meetings, conferences, continuing education courses, and seminars as required

• Operates a motor vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City 

• May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly, or completely unrelated to normal job functions 

• Performs related duties as required or assigned

High School Diploma or equivalent. Five years of experience in Public Works in a municipal setting or related experience. Must have had a Texas CDL-A Driver's License for a minimum of 3 years. Within twelve months of hire must complete a CDL Instructor training program approved by the Texas DPS and must maintain instructor certification while employed by the city. Obtain other licenses as needs arise by the department.

This position requires the completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses 100 and 700 upon hiring or within six months of employment/transfer/promotion. Completion of courses 800, 300 and 400 must be attained within the first year of employment. 

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED: 

High: Exerting 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently or 10-20 pounds constantly. Exposure to biological and/or infectious materials. Inclement weather: extreme heat/cold, rain, sleet, ice and some exposure to mechanical, electrical and explosive hazards, dust, toxic and chemical waste, using proper safety precautions.
