Responsibilities & Requirements

The Lead RN Acute Care provides clinical leadership and coordination for nursing staff in an acute care setting, supporting high-quality patient care, safety, and operational reliability. This role guides care delivery, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Education:

  Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program

 

Preferred Education:

 Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related healthcare field

 

Work Experience Required:

 Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting 

 

Preferred Work Experience:

 Previous experience in a charge, lead, or supervisory nursing role Licenses, Certifications and Registrations

 

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

 Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio

 Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 

 All required credentials must be maintained in good standing throughout employment

 

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

 Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

 Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or other specialty certification 

 

Skills

 Demonstrated clinical expertise in acute care nursing

 Strong communication and interpersonal skills

 Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and delegate tasks effectively

 Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems, preferably Epic

 Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

 Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards 

 Ability to facilitate team collaboration and staff development

 

Essential Functions 

 Lead and coordinate daily nursing care activities to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care in accordance with established protocols and standards.

 Serve as a clinical resource and role model for nursing staff, providing guidance, support, and informal training as needed.

 Facilitate communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.

 Monitor patient care delivery and intervene or escalate concerns to appropriate leaders to ensure quality and safety.

 Assist with staff scheduling, assignments, and workload distribution based on patient acuity and staffing resources.

 Participate in quality improvement initiatives, data collection, and implementation of best practices to enhance care delivery.

 Support orientation and onboarding of new staff, and contribute to ongoing staff development activities.

 Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational policies, including infection control, HIPAA, and safety standards.

 Document patient care and unit activities accurately and timely in the electronic health record. 

 Identify and address operational or clinical issues, escalating unresolved matters to appropriate leadership.

 Foster a positive work environment that supports teamwork, professional growth, and adherence to Kettering Health values.
