Join the Frederick County Fire and Rescue team as a Part-Time EMS providing Basic Life Support (BLS) services. This position primarily serves as an on-call EMS to staff peak-time BLS transport units and provide EMS coverage for special events as needed. As a Part-Time EMS (Basic Life Support) Provider, you will:
  • Assist in the mitigation of emergency incidents, including providing emergency care for the sick and injured.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain rescue apparatus and related equipment.
  • Inspect, maintain, and clean assigned fire stations and grounds. 
  • Drive and operate emergency medical response apparatus.
  • Complete reports and documentation as required by Department SOPs.
  • Attend and complete training as assigned by the supervisor and the Training Division.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, patients, volunteer fire and rescue personnel, and the public.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years old. 
  • Must possess and maintain a current Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification.
  • Must possess and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or an equivalent certification approved by the Virginia Office of EMS.
  • Must possess FEMA/NIMS IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 certifications and Virginia Department of Fire Programs Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) Class I and II certifications.
  • Preferred that the providers are released EMS providers in the Lord Fairfax EMS Council Region or their respective EMS Council region.  
  • Work may include peak-time assignments, event standby coverage, weekends, holidays, and other shifts based on operational needs.
Physical Demands: Requires considerable physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving patients and equipment. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, run, crawl, and work on uneven or slippery surfaces in varying lighting conditions. Performs duties under stressful and emergency conditions.

Environmental Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and adverse weather. Emergency responses may involve exposure to smoke, infectious diseases, biological agents, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and other dangerous conditions.
